We have been meeting with an attorney as inheritance laws are changing and we need to get organized.
Any of you who are old enough to think about these things -- have you made any special provisions for special dogs? I'm not sure anyone in my family really wants the Pinker.

Well, any of us can be killed at any age. Probably shouldn't be thought of as just an older-owner topic.
My dogs are arranged for, including, of course, the person having agreed fully. (Not a matter of "Well, I have bad news and bad news: Connie died but you get all her dogs!" LOL)
In the case of a challenging dog, it might be a situation of arranging with someone you trust to do it, but for pay. So you trust them even more. And then they are paid out of the estate. It would have to be a dog-lover, of course.
I will be interested to read what others say.
I know that I can envision situations where I would have my dog put down, if, say, I had no reliable new owner and the old dog would end up in a shelter. I have a couple who are seniors with very little adoptability who I'd never let end up in a shelter.
I am extremely fortunate to have a daughter who will take mine, and also to belong to a club with a couple of members who I could arrange it with, too, if I had to (people I would arrange to be paid, and for the dogs' expenses to be covered too).
I think it's a really important thing to get in writing way before we ever think we might need to.

I'm not old but made certain I know what's going to happen with mine, the quiet one stays with my housemate and the other two go back to the breeder with funds to cover boarding till they pass or they find a good home.

As part of the contract with my breeder, if for any reason I can't keep a pup I got from her, she will take the puppy back and either keep it or rehome it. It doesn't matter what the age is or the circumstances.
I know that nobody in my family wants to deal with dog as large as Sasha, so I've made arrangements for my friend in New York to take her. I have provided a trust fund in my will to cover food, vaccines, and vet bills. If for any reason, my friend can't keep my dog, then she (and her trust fund) will be returned back to the breeder.

All my animals are taken care of, but also it is some thing that can change over time so it may have to be reviewed once in a while.
One of my horse solution is at the moment in a position that would not worked but it did worked 2 years ago.

I feel that these kinds of decisions & preparations should be planned out BEFORE you even take on the ownership of an animal.

Not saying that you may not need to periodically update things, but the general plan should be in place from day one of owning a animal.
I always had arrangements for both my horses, dogs, cats, ferret & bird from day one. I just think that it is part of responsible ownership.

My English Shepherd will go back to his breeder.
But what about odd dogs, the ones that are your dogs only? Difficult dogs? I guess he's not so difficult any more. He's incredibly well trained thanks to Leerburg.

In the event of my death, Sam gets the house and will keep the dogs until they die, or if through old age/illness they have to be pts.
And as if all the dogs precede me, their ashes are to be interred with mine.
In any event, my best friends and I will share a final resting place

We're very fortunate too in that I have a brother that's willing to take on the boys, as long as they come with our property.
He knows though, that if for any reason, he's not able to care for them in a meaningful way, in a fashion they're accustomed to, they are also to be PTS before any type of shelter or stranger gets their hands on them.
And Betty, just to throw it out there, I would take that Pinker in a heartbeat. We're set up perfectly for and quite used to "special needs" dogs. I've been meaning to get a cow too. Would he come with one?
