I don’t have any grooming info other than the fact my do-it-yourself Shepherd and Northern dogs are a LOT of work come spring time.
But some of you may remember, I had Garrett shaved last year – a four hour labor of love for an older (late 70’s), semi-retired lady (absolutely wonderful lady), in her home and I got to assist.
I thought it was kind of interesting that along with her straight scissors, clippers and a comb, the only other thing she had sitting there was a can of WD-40. As she was clipping away, she’d stop and spray the blades with it. Of course I had to ask what she was doing. She said it kept the blades cool.
I’m assuming that’s kind of like the blade spray or wash you guys are talking about. Maybe an old school type of thing.
Garrett did end up with a bit of a rash around his wee wee area (last area she did and not quite sure why). But it quickly cleared up with some Aloe Vera gel (thank you Tracy). So not sure how well it works but I thought it was just one more interesting use for WD-40.
And Betty, I wish you the best of luck with this. I'll bet you'd make an awesome groomer!
Haah!!! WD-40? Funny! Clipper cool- it cools, lubricates, and disinfects the blades. A rash could have come from a dull blade, a hot blade, or simply the wrong size. Some dogs have extra sensitive skin.

This thread has been great guys! Can't thank you enough. The grooming sounds like something that would really fit into my lifestyle and puppy schedule pretty well once I get enough training to bring it home.
I would imagine in this area most of it would be the simple stuff.
