John Miller: I just found these cooling mats on one of the link provided by Jessica (scroll to the bottom of the page): http://www.bodycooler.com/pets.htm
Are these the same cooling mats you have? If so, how do they work & how long do they stay cool? I'm thinking of ordering one but the web site didn't explain very much about them. We pretty much die in the heat here in So Calif!
Susan, I know you were talking to (one of the) John's, but I got it and stays cool for about an hour or so depending on the temp. I got two, and keep one in a cooler with some freezer packs and then rotate them out.
I also got those belly wraps that stay cool for about the same amount of time (page 2 of that website has big dog sizes) and do the same cooler rotate thing.
I drive to Bakersfield and San Diego regularly and won't leave home with out them! Great for a training day or a baseball game in that horrendous heat. Neither of us are used to it.
I have the one towards the bottom of that page, and it seems to work O.K. Stay cool is a relative term. They dont stay cold for long, but are cooler than the dog and the air so it helps.
I got my new vehicle, Tundra 4WD truck, mentioned early in the thread and still use the O 2 Cool fans.
I am also looking at getting the side windows of the camper blacked out or whited out :
I got full radius windoors on both sides and a slider between the cab and the camper: that helps with it not getting too hot in there while parked (even in the sun on a very hot day). To me moving air around the dog is critical.
Next job is moving air into the camper while driving.
It is that time of the year. I'll send an email to all handlers telling them to function test their "Hot Dog" systems. That also includes a test of their anti-theft system. Since the dogs spend the entire shift in the vehicle, they are have proven to be worth their weight in gasoline.
