I have not put in even 10% of the time with bommi as I have with Kaiser. This is because as per the breed standards Rajapalayms are supposed to be hard headed and not overtly affectionate and not biddable. So I dismissed her and did not do much work with her other than the basic sit, down and come.
Every time I used to train kaiser, she will whine and moan.So a month or so back, I decided to take her and see if she will do a decent heel. She amazed me. She did a focused heel, no training nothing.
I mentioned this to the president of our local Kennel club and he said , it would be a great help to the indan breed (which is slowly dieing) if I can bring her to the obedience show too. He also told me that the judges will be slightly partial to Indian breeds (Doggie version of affirmative action).
The test is basic Heel on lead, heel free, recall from sit or down, sit 1 min handler in sight , down 2 min handler in sight, retrieve any article, temperament test.
We are working on putting up a good show and not relying on judge's partiality. Also I will have kaiser in the ring the same day, so I dont want the judge to be partial.
The show is on 10th Dec 2010.
Rajapalayams are also supposed to have straight and not curly tails.
Bommi has a curly tail, so she is biddable, intelligent, affectionate and super cute.
She does not have the perfect heel sit/front, but I love her and enjoy seeing her look at me like I am the centre of her universe.
I dont use the e-collar at all. It is there just in case some thing untoward happens. I dont have the luxury of having dog parks or fields to train. I have to do it on the streets with literally 100s of stray dogs running around. I have a big stick to take care of the strays should they attack my dog. I have the e-collar should mine go after them.
She is just TERRIFIC!
Thank you for posting the video. She is so sweet looking. She is doing great!
It's pretty hard to keep a hound focused and excited about doing what you ask.
Good luck at your show.
