From a puppy purchaser's point of view, not breeder's, I can tell you why all the sport folks I know don't seriously consider czech dogs. It's simply because we haven't been able to see these dogs working, we can't see their progeny coming up, and we don't know their ancestors to make an informed decision on whether a certain breeding or puppy is a good risk. Titles and scores don't mean anything; we all know those can be bought any time, any where. But when you talk about western European dogs, we can see them work at big events, we can see many of their progeny work. We know if we like what we see and what that stud is throwing in his pups. I can't say that for czech dogs. Of the four websites I can think of that advertise czech dogs, I haven't seen any of their dogs in competition, nor do I know anyone who is working on of their pups. And this country is just so darn big that it's not feasible to think people will fly across country just to go see an "unknown" (to many of us) mother and father to evaluate them in person.
On a different note: Todd writes:
" many people don't have the experience to handle a really good CZECH dog. "
Now who is generalizing an entire country's dogs?? First you say people make generalizations that are unfounded, that czech dogs shouldn't be categorized the way some do; then you essentially say..but czech dogs DO have traits that make them more difficult to handle.
Maybe my understanding of the english language is off. I did not say a Czech dog. I said a really good Czech dog. Since we are talking Czech lines here I felt that was good. But since we all take everything literal.
I feel most people in the world could not handle a REALLY good GSD. Is that better?
Gee there is nobody here like that Todd! If someone did have a problem they could always "Squirt Em!" Heheheh <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> My Bad...
Leute mögen Hunde, aber Leute LIEBEN ausgebildete Hunde!
Well you said one thing and meant another so that is cleared up. There is a world of diffrence. I fail to see how one could understand that you were talking about German Shepherds from working lines, but maybe I should hsve called Ms.Cleo! This would have avoided the confusion. Sorry Todd.
I can see it now, sharpened prongs and squirt bottles flailing! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
