Our detector dog kits are made by Leerburg in Wisconsin. They were designed by Kevin Sheldahl and Ed Frawley to be used in detector dog training.

For the past 40 years detector dog handlers have trained with PVC tubes that have a few holes drilled in them or they use cloth canvas bags to hide training aides. This new training kit is made from a hard plastic resin and has hundreds of holes, and they keep training aids much safer than a canvas bag.

Each kit includes two tubes with threaded ends and a coupler. The coupler can connect the tubes if the trainer wishes. The tubes are 5.5 by 1 1/4 inch and a 7.5 by 1 1/4 inch with end caps.

The coupler blocks contents from one tube from coming in contact with the content of the second tube.

Detection dogs that are only exposed to small amounts of odor in training will often have problems when exposed to large quantities during real searches. For that reason, a training program should always be designed to include larger quantities. Our kits allow that to happen. Because the tubes are threaded on both ends there is no limit to how many kits can be threaded together to create one very large training aid.

When dog handlers from different agencies train together, their kits can easily be threaded together, to simulate a large find, yet each agencies aides are kept separated from one another.

The training tubes will also hold multiple Getxent tubes that have been impregnated with narcotics, explosives, or human remains. This allows handlers to safely expose their dogs to larger odor cones of dangerous substances. If you are unfamiliar with Getxent you can read about it on Leerburg's web page.
