Easy to apply and concentrated. One pound covers approximately 2000 square feet.
Millions of years ago, microscopic one-celled plants called Diatoms took minerals from the vast oceans and created shells for themselves. These shells became deposits in our sea beds and today provide us with the multi-useful powder, Diatomaceous Earth.
Today, there are over 1500 uses for the trace mineral-rich Diatomaceous Earth, insect control being its most notable. Bugs, such as fleas and ticks, do not have blood vessels, only a body cavity which contains their bodily fluids. Diatomaceous Earth causes them to dehydrate and die. They waxy coating found on many insects is also absorbed by Diatomaceous Earth. In addition, the microscopic, razor sharp mineral composition of Diatomaceous Earth pierces the waxy coating and the body cavity to allow more fluid to be absorbed more quickly. Safe for young or compromised pets.

INTERNAL PARASITE CONTROL
Food grade diatomaceous earth makes a very effective natural insecticide. The insecticidal quality of diatomaceous earth is due to the razor sharp edges of the diatom remains. When diatomaceous earth comes in contact with the insects, the sharp edges lacerate the bugs waxy exoskeleton and then the powdery diatomaceous earth absorbs the body fluids causing death from dehydration.
Food grade diatomaceous earth has been used for at least two decades as a natural wormer for livestock. To be most effective, food grade diatomaceous earth must be fed long enough to catch all newly hatching eggs or cycling of the worms. A minimum of 60 days is suggested Food grade diatomaceous earth works in a purely physical/mechanical manner, not ‘chemical’ and thus has no chemical toxicity. Best yet, parasites don’t build up a tolerance/immunity to its chemical reaction, so rotation of wormers is unnecessary.
Daily recommended food grade diatomaceous earth feeding rates:
- Kittens - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cats - 1 teaspoon
- Puppies - 1/2 to 1 teaspoon
- Dogs under 35 lb - 1 teaspoon
- Dogs over 35 lb - 1 tablespoon
- Dogs over 100 lb - 2 tablespoons

Thank you Azmira and Leerburg
I used to use Advantage/Frontline on my 1st dog (Blue Heeler) and two cats until my boss told me one of those products had temporarily caused paralysis in her German Shepherd's back legs. That freaked me out! After my 2nd dog (German Shepherd) joined our family, I found the Leerburg website and greatly benefitted from the Basic Obedience, Dealing with Aggressive & Dominant Dogs, and Establishing Pack Structure DVDs and all the articles and Q&A on this website. I also learned about DE here and ordered it and will be ordering more so I can do regular prevention at my house.
Thank you Leerburg!
I solved the first problem by not vaccinating her again. The giardia was a little more difficult. I wound up treating her with panacur initially to kick-start her treatment, and I put 1 teaspoon of diatomaceous earth in her raw diet daily (she's 10 lbs). Her stools went from a watery mess to firm and mucus free in 3 days. I haven't had issues with her stools since. I truly believe that between Cindy's advice and diatomaceous earth, my dog parasite free. As some of you may know, giardia never fully goes away once a dog has it and it can be very difficult to manage and can flare up often throughout a dogs life. For my dog, this has been a game changer and I believe it has saved her from a life full of chemical dewormers and flagyl. I can't recommend this enough, and I think anyone who has a dog with a history of giardia can benefit greatly from a daily diatomaceous earth regimen.
Thanks Cindy!
