Our Leather Bite Pillows are handmade with genuine leather suede. Leather is softer and more forgiving on teeth and gums than jute, which makes it appealing to puppies, dogs with sensitive mouths, and dogs that are hesitant to bite down hard. It's also more durable and holds its shape better under repeated bites and tugging, and the reinforcement at seams and handles helps it stand up to strong pulling. Many dogs find leather especially satisfying to bite, so it can boost engagement and drive. With proper use, this bite pillow will be sure to last a long time.

How to Use

Bite pillows are used mainly in bite work, the foundation of protection sports like IGP/Schutzhund and of police and military K9 training. Because they're softer and easier to grab than a sleeve, they let puppies and inexperienced dogs bite successfully and feel rewarded. A fuller, rounder pillow (often called a bite roll or bite wedge when it's cylindrical or tapered) is designed to fill more of the dog's mouth. The thickness pushes the bite deeper toward the back teeth, which helps teach and reinforce a full, firm grip rather than a shallow one.

Helpers move the pillow like prey and let the dog win it, building drive and confidence, and handlers use it to teach targeting, holding steady, and releasing on cue. Pillows are also a stepping stone: dogs typically move from rags and tugs to pillows, then on to puppy sleeves, hard sleeves, and bite suits. Some trainers outside protection work also use them as a durable tug reward for high-drive dogs.
