Product Description

I am often asked by customers if they should buy an agitation harness or a wide leather collar for bite work training. The answer to this question lies with their dog. The purpose for either one of these training aids is to insure the safety of their dog during protection training. Some dogs have so much drive that they choke themselves during bite training, even if they are worked on the "dead ring" of a normal prong collar. If this is happening to your dog, you need to make a change. For many dogs, a wider collar (1 1/4 inch) is enough. If a handler feels he needs more than this he can go to a 2" wide leather agitation collar or even a Leather Agitation Harness.

MADE IN THE USA

Leerburg leather products are works of art.

The cow hides used to make all of Leerburg's leather are hand selected for Leerburg before tanning. We need and use the thickest hides available. Our hides go through over 85 steps in a tanning process that takes over a month. There are many types of Latigo leather that are made in Mexico, India, or Pakistan, but none can compare to the quality of Leerburg’s Latigo leather.

Once tanned, our Leerburg Leather is delivered to the Amish family that crafts our leather products right here in Wisconsin. This family has been making all of our leather products for the past 20 years.

These 5 Amish craftsmen hand cut, sew, pop-rivet, and tailor all of our leather products. We have yet to come across another leather product that measures up to our products' quality.

In 2015, we switched from using brass or bronze hardware to stainless steel. Stainless Steel is stronger and lasts a lifetime. You can go and find a cheaper leather product somewhere else, but the quality will not measure up to our products.

100% of Leerburg leather products are made in Wisconsin. We don't use leather from India, Pakistan, or Mexico.

Similar Collars

We carry agitation collars that are 1 1/4" wide and 2" wide.

Notes

Color Transfer: Our Amish leather products are made with American-made leather that is stained using natural oils and dyes. There is a possibility that some color may transfer from leather products. We recommend that you use discretion when using this product with lighter colored clothing and dogs.

Handmade Items: Leerburg's leather leashes, collars, and harnesses are made by hand. Due to the nature of handmade products, there is a possibility that your item may vary slightly in size and color.

Very well made collar with strong straight stitching and high quality leather. Perfect for my high drive shepherd for working, training, and day to day wear.

The quality of these Leerburg leather collars (and all their leather products) is top shelf. I bought two of these collars for my mastiffs. They hold up great to the abuse that big dogs deal out. The leather and hardware are of the best quality and I never have to doubt the integrity of these collars, especially when they are needed the most. I suggest using the Leerburg leather leads with these collars to ensure control (even when the squirrels start to tease the dogs).

Although probably not smart, I purchased a 2" agitation collar for my last dog who ended up not being suitable for any sort of bite work. He wore the collar almost daily for his entire life and it held up to the elements and daily wear and tear that a dog will put on a collar. There was no de-lamination of the layers, although over time some of the stitching did come loose although it did not impact the performance of the collar in any way.

I decided to go "all in" and got a Malinois from working lines earlier this year and figured the 1.25" would be a great place to start for him as he had already blew rivets out of the cheap PetCo collar I had purchased for him at a cost of around $20. He's had a few bitework sessions and the trainer and decoy have already said that he needs to be on a 2" collar...a little bit of a bummer that I need to drop another $49 on a new collar but I will tell you what, these collars are nearly indestructible, they look fantastic and the quality is amazing.

The only criticism that I have (and maybe someone from Leerburg will take note--it is however; very minor) -- make sure you buy an extra leather loop or two if your dogs neck is on the small side for the collar -- you're going to have a substantial amount of leather flopping in the wind. With that said, the extra leather loops ARE TOO LOOSE, they slide back and forth easily which doesn't do much to contain the additional leather that's left over after buckling.

Here is a picture of my dog with your beautiful collar on. King is a 135lb “African born”, Rhodesian Ridgeback. The 1 1/4 is a perfect size, and the brown works with his red coat.
