These harnesses are made from soft latigo leather. Straps are 1" wide by 3/16" thick.

The hardware on our leather dog tracking and agitation harnesses are made from the highest quality stainless steel. All of our leather harnesses are sewn and then pop riveted to insure the highest security available. This is very important in dog training where a broken harness can cause accident or injury to you or your dog.

The tracking harness is designed to fit almost any size working dog. The leather is the finest you can buy. It is flexible and will not rub or wear into the skin of your dog. In addition it has a padded shoulder straps to protect the dog in a long track. There is a lightweight belly-plate that is not padded. We designed this tracking harness to be comfortable and as light as possible with a leather harness for longer tracks.

You can have the plate and o-ring be on top of the dogs back or under the dogs chest; it is your choice. Some trainers prefer the long line to be under the dog and come out between the dogs back legs. This helps in training tracking dogs to keep their head to the ground. Other trainers prefer to have the plate and o-ring be on top of the dogs back and have the track line or long line come off the dog behind the shoulder blades.

Our tracking harness is not recommended for use as an agitation harness. It can be too light for hard hitting dogs and there is no chest plate on the leather tracking harnesses. This harness was designed to be lightweight and comfortable for tracking.

This design was inspired from a tracking harness used by the RCMP in Canada. The harness does not restrict the air flow of the dog in any way. This is an extremely important feature on a tracking harness during long tracks where the dogs need all the help they can get.

The main difference between an agitation harness and tracking harness is that an agitation harness has a padded breast plate to cushion the dog when it hits the end of the line while doing protection work. The dogs need this cushion to absorb some of the shock of a tie out. This breast plate causes too much of an air flow restriction to be used in long police or Search/Rescue tracks. An agitation harness is also too heavy for long distance tracking.

Leerburg leather products are works of art.

The cow hides used to make all of Leerburg's leather are hand selected for Leerburg before tanning. We need and use the thickest hides available. Our hides go through over 85 steps in a tanning process that takes over a month. There are many types of Latigo leather that are made in Mexico, India, or Pakistan, but none can compare to the quality of Leerburg’s Latigo leather.

Once tanned, our Leerburg Leather is delivered to the Amish family that crafts our leather products right here in Wisconsin. This family has been making all of our leather products for the past 20 years.

These 5 Amish craftsmen hand cut, sew, pop-rivet, and tailor all of our leather products. We have yet to come across another leather product that measures up to our products' quality.

In 2015, we switched from using brass or bronze hardware to stainless steel. Stainless Steel is stronger and lasts a lifetime. You can go and find a cheaper leather product somewhere else, but the quality will not measure up to our products.

100% of Leerburg leather products are made in Wisconsin. We don't use leather from India, Pakistan, or Mexico like 100% of our competitors use.

What is girth?

Girth is taken from the widest part of the dog's chest behind the forelegs.

A dog with a tape measure around its neck, behind the ears.

Our Amish leather products are made with American-made leather that is stained using natural oils and dyes. There is a possibility that some color may transfer from leather products. We recommend that you use discretion when using this product with lighter colored clothing and dogs.

Please keep in mind when ordering that all of our leather leashes are handmade. We try to be as exact as possible with the sizes and colors, but variances do occur.

I really love this harness for my trailing dog. It's well made, easy to take on and off, and the handle on the back is really nice for controlling those dogs that are amped up before working. I've recommended it to all of my clients, and most of us trail in this harness. Mine was misplaced at training this past week and now I'm back to buy a replacement. The only thing I would change about it is that it fits dogs about 60# and up, leaving my border collies and smaller female GSDs in a bind for a different harness. I recently punched new holes on the neck straps to solve this issue and it seems to be working just fine (girth strap can fit these smaller dogs).

Very nice harness. I ordered another leather harness from a different company and returned it because I was not impressed with the quality. The leather on this harness is very smooth and the stitching is well done. The quality is excellent and I like that it's not as bulky as the agitation harnesses for tracking. I wish it came in more sizes. I have a 65lb coonhound and the girth strap fit on the smallest hole leaving a lot of extra strap hanging. He's definitely not a small dog either.Otherwise I'm very happy with this harness.
