If my puppy refuses a command, do I say NO or just lure him into the position I asked for?

Full Question:
Hi Cindy,

When I am sure my puppy knows a command and he does it 99 times when I tell him, but refuse to the 100th time, do I give a negative marker(NO) or do I just repeat the command and lure him into a sit? This puppy of mine knows exactly what a sit is but sometimes he looks at me with those "what are you talking about" eyes.

Thanks
Cindy
Cindy Cindy's Answer:
You always mark NO so he understands he doesn’t get his reward and then give him help so he gets it right.

He may understand sit in certain context or he may lack motivation to do what you are asking. Make sure you are being interesting enough for him. Sometimes we humans turn obedience practice into a drill that’s predictable and boring. Keep things mixed up and fun.
