My parents are coming in from KS today, but I didn't want to leave some of you hanging..I will try to be quick......I know I will mess things.....
Eddie is now almost 2 yrs old.
When Eddie and his sister were 2 months old I bought them, but didn't pick them up from the breeder till 1 month after that.
When I bought them they weren't weaned yet. They were when I picked them up.
they also had severe hair loss on their backs and around the eyes, they were rail thin.
I was sooo pissed, and got them out of there as soon as possible.
Brought them home called the vet to do scrapings..negative....tried everything we could think of to get weight on them...not much worked.
We had a dairy cow at the time and started giving them raw milk...gallons of it.
they gained weight.
They were on this for about 4-5 months....then we sold the cow and put them on good quality kibble.
Kiara started loosing weight we thought it was because she was submissive...we re homed her, they put her on raw and she did great.
We moved and Eddie kept loosing weight..we tried another kibble and another...he kept jumping over the livestock fence so we chained him up until we could get an electric fence up.
We locked up his sister in a run, and kept a hopper full of food next to him...we tried putting egg over it, and canned food...everything we could think of...still thin.
We saw a heavy worm load and wormed him with Ivomec and followed with tape worm meds. We brought him up to the house to try to get some weight on him.
We tried a bland diet boiled chicken with rice...wouldn't eat the rice..tried just chicken...no go...
Went to raw. Connie and I spent lots of time trying to hammer out a diet...all was well.
we had him up to 2 lbs of ground beef and 3 pork necks a day.
I stupidly gave him a bratwurst in a bun.
The next day he was vomiting with diarrhea.
Can't. get. Him. To. Eat.
I took him right to a vet that I got off this site..supports raw.
he took a massive blood panel results pending...should be in tomorrow.
Fecal negative.
He suspects a whip worm infestation. Says that they can fly under the radar. Sent us home with anti vomit meds... and antibiotics and panacur powder.
He wont eat...so I can't get the powder in him.
Going back to get an 80$ pill on Monday to worm him with.
I remembered that I had given him a burger with a bun and he got sick feeling..eating grass.
Yesterday we tried bread with the powder..he puked it right up.
I went out to the field to check his sister who normally doesn't have weight issues.....she is thin...free access to food and wormed recently.
I suspect pancreatitis or even IBS or Celiac disease.
He is supposed to weigh 100lbs or better...he is 26 inches tall.....he weighs 77lbs. He weighed 77 on the 15th of march.
He ate a pork neck last night, a hand full of ground meat, and part of a pork neck today.
Drinking fine....stools are back to normal...log and firm.
Cow friends are donating 20-30 gallons of raw milk...I am so thank full..they could easily get 64a gal for it..but they are giving it to me.
I hope he drinks it. The enzymes in it make it ok for dogs.
Sigh......
Help!!!!!!!!!
The DR said to let him keep working....he said "He isn't dead yet, and if we don't let him work, that might kill him."
I've been trying to take it easy on him...but if I move he gets right up and stands near so I can grab him if I need to.
If I go somewhere with out him he tries to follow....he obviously wants to work..puts his head in his harness and his working collar.
Ideas?
