So, what are yoooou watching?
I had a "lazy" day today since I"m still battling a lower respiratory infection (or whatever this thing is...antibiotics are NOT working) and decided to watch a bunch of horror movies on Netflix. Ratings are based after the sample of movies selected (I'm not saying Tokyo Gore Police is on the same level of an actual "good" movie)
Tokyo Gore Police: A LOVED IT XD senseless and often hilarious gore (blood powered rocket legs). Most of it is a hose with red water. Everytime you think "oh, they are not going there" they go there....again XD It's intentionally crazy, it should be "bad" but I can not NOT love it
Thankskilling: F Contender for one of the worst movies I've seen in a while....it's bad, it's tastless, it makes NO sense. The dialog is....uh....interesting?
Fear Itself Series-Eater: C Not bad, very creepy....fun movie and is quite short
Fear Itself Series-In Sickness and In Health: C+ Fun, very fun. Good idea, okay exicution. Has the guy (and I think the girl) from Psyche...this whole series has very familiar actors which is interesting and fun. Sort of like Are You Afraid of the Dark meets the less famous episodes of Twilight Zone
Hanger: -doesn't deserve rating- EW EW EW EW EW....completely tasteless and not even in a way that could be funny. Horrible and completely unlikable characters, nasty (and poor) special effects, weird story, so offensive it's obnoxious (and I'm not easily offended by movies)
Aftermath: -I...I...don't know how to rate this O_O .....I seriously sat though 32 minutes of a guy having sex with a corpse....not recommended O_O
Day of the Dead: C+ NOT a remake of the 80s zombie film I love though it borrows a character or two....Instead it's um....cute? "Bud" is rather adorable for a zombie....I think he'd be a nice pet...
Blood: the last vampire: B I'm completely bias as I LOVED the original Blood animated movie. It's different, not bad but not as cool as the original (and it's not exactly a remake as the plot is not the same)
The Crazies (original): A I like this movie, I've always liked this movie....
The Crazies (remake): A Very good for a remake. Definatly more "scary" than the original that protrayed the infected more as confused individuals. This one sort of went the "flesh eatting zombie" route but pulled it off well. I found that this movies approach of "not only are these zombies trying to kill you, but they've retained enough thinking power to make escape quite difficult"

When the day is going slow I can always watch Sean of the Dead, Evil Dead series, 21 Days Later, 6th Sense, Silence of the Lambs, or A Clockwork Orange.
Not much else has held my interest in the genre in the last couple years.

I liked 21 days later too, the original Candyman gives me the chills, as does Hitchcock's The Birds. Signs creeps me out too, I love that movie, so tense.
Worst horror movie ever...The Hills Have Eyes, it is even worse than American Psycho in my book and that says a lot LOL.

Isn't it 28 Days Later? That's my one of my favorite movies, Fido is up there too and Zombieland was adorable....
I also like gore fest movies like the original 3 Saw Movies (after that and it just was no fun) and both Hostel movies (can't wait until 3 comes out!)

Jamie you're right... LOL I almost forgot... 12 Monkeys. I love that movie.
Zombieland was hysterical. I thought it more of a comedy than an actual horror flick though.

I long for the kind of supernatural chillers I used to enjoy, like The Exorcist, The Amityville Horror and The Omen. They didn't have all of today's effects at their disposal then, so the story itself had to be imaginative and creepy. Imagine what we could do do with story lines like these today if we put a little thought into it (though IMHO the remake of "Amityville" sucked a bit).
I am also a fan of a good, old-fashioned murder mystery. Less emphasis on the murder, more on the mystery and the solving of the crime.
I just don't care for today's half-naked, slice-and-dice gore-apaloozas. Most of them are essentially a kidnap/torture/murder explored in sick detail with no thought whatsoever to a consequence for the perpetrator(unless they get blown up or killed). SO not my thing. I have zero interest in a 'person vs. person' "horror" movie. Throw in something supernatural you might get my attention, but it has to be interesting too.
I don't want to be grossed out, I WANT to be SCARED dammit, and it's been a really long time.
I did enjoy Zombieland though, because I didn't have a lot of expectations and it was just fun

I've heard it was funny. I actually thought "Jennifer's Body" was somewhat entertaining too.
For more suspense, I liked "The Uninvited". I thought the trailers for "The Unborn" looked good too, but....it was good-ish in the beginning, the end not so much.
I like some of the Stephen King movies too, (though some are admittedly terrible). I especially enjoyed "Children of the Corn" and "Secret Window"...oooh and "The Shining" was pretty awesome too.
I know my choices aren't particularly contemporary, but I'm still looking for a GOOD new horror flick
Has anybody seen anything SCARY?

Oh man Jennifer's Body was hilarious XD
I really like the remake of Dawn of the Dead for scary, however it isn't really anything thought provoking...the Orphanage was very good, I also enjoyed the Orphan because I didn't guess the ending within the first 10 minutes though it got rather strange....
I just watched "The Stepfather" which I found entertaining but only okay
Also, I always like The Omen for scary (well, it was when I was little...I wanted a rottie for the longest time after seeing that), the remake is interesting
If you want warm and fuzzy "Fido" is the way to go....I was left with a warm and fuzzy affection for zombies after that. It's a zombie comedy that also happens to be a VERY good zombie movie...it's rather heartwarming...
I greatly enjoyed Silent Hill but I'm a bit bias as I have a crush on the Pyramid Head monster (and his nurses too...and the cop....). It's also pleasantly creepy and very pretty. On the topic of video game movies the first resident evil is very fun, the third one has zombie german shepherds (the first has zombie dobies XD supposedly during the filming they have trouble with the dobermans eatting their costumes)

I absolutely hate scary movies, so the closest I get is scary movies that have a dose of humor; my favorite being 'An American Werewolf in London' (and the soundtrack is great, too...)
