Hi All..
Longtime! Been busy dog training! LOL!
Well Lilly and I are going on a year..Whew! She has finally stopped stredding her beds, blankets and whatever else she can find! Exercise is still key in our book! I did after months of training on my own take her to Pet Smart classes which actually was helpful! Worked more on distractions and the "HERE" which is still a challange! All is well with the cat they ignore eachother!
So some of the things that I have noticed that caused me to reaise a brow..I wanted the input of the experienced!
1) She spent a night with my friend who has a large dog (Dexter) and a much older dog (Max 15 yrs old) well all was fine until she went crazy and jummped the old dog I felt so bad as I never expected this. Maybe my fault as leaving her with a friend may not have been a good idea?? She gets along with the Dexter perfect! Thoughts on that?
2) She goes to bed (on her own..whew) at 6pm everynight..Is this normal..I know it sounds weird for me to ask but the family is up watching TV hanging out and she is alone either in the bedroom sleeping or in my office..She gets up for dinner at 8 and then back to bed..She dosn't even want to go outside..Oh FYI she now sleeps in a bed on the floor next to me..I still use the kennel when leaving her alone in the house but she dosn't move from that bed at night..
3) This morning we were walking in our yard and a man stopped with his dog..Asked if he could introduce of course I say yes as NORMALLY she is friendly but she got all crazy and tried to jump his dog???? Not cool! My fault again??? I take her to Pet Smart and Lowes to walk around everyweek to keep her social so I don't know what is up..Maybe because we were in our yard????
4) The "HERE" still not working she dosn't come when called I have tried treats, toys...ideas? I will never let her off leash because I don't trust that she will come!
All input is welcome and appreciated!
Thanks
K

Not sure about jumping theother dogs, but I can tell you what worked for me with the recall. This might not be kosher, but here it is anyway.
When my dogs were around 5 months old, they started to not come when called every time. If they were busy playing or sniffing etc. Then I put them on a long rope and let them go sniff and called, if they turned around, I would gently reel them in, if they ignored, I would give leash corrections with NO..and pull them in with the HIER.
They were having a tough time for a few days, but once they got it in their heads that HIER is a command and not a choice they come to me every single time.
Also, I will always praise/treat after they come to me even if I had to correct them and reel them in forcibly.

Hi Kristina,
By "jumping the old dog" do you mean there was a fight? And yes, I agree, leaving your dog with someone else who has two other dogs was a bad idea, unless they could all have been kept separate/crated. Three is a pack. Your dog has been attacked in the past (seriously), which would make me very, very hesitant to put her in "group" situations with other dogs. EVER. JMHO.
I NEVER let my dog "meet" strange dogs while out in public. NEVER. This is such an incredibly dangerous situation - you know nothing about the other dog's personality or health and have no idea if the owner can control their own dog. And you have a dog who has been attacked in the past so you have no idea how she is going to respond to that particular dog. YIKES.
Your dog is telling/showing you she can't be trusted around other dogs except when under your absolute control (on a leash in a training environment while not sniffing/playing with other dogs). It might be wise to stop putting her in those situations. You could be putting her in a very dangerous situation and yourself in a avery liable one...
It would appear that going to bed at 6:00 is normal for your dog since that is what she is doing every night.
How have you been training the recall? Are you familiar with Marker training yet? (It works very well!) And one more question - does your dog have more food or prey drive?

I agree with the above posts.
I am also someone who makes the "come" a no option command - after I have taught the dog what is expected through luring and marker training.
If you have done this and the dog still blows you off. Move to a long line and start setting your dog up. Walk around an area allowing the dog to sniff. Call your dog in, if he ignores, I DO NOT reel them in. I want them to make the choice to come to me. So I call them in, if they come, they get food, toy and praise, or whatever works for that dog - and lots of it.
If they ignore, they get one firm pop. At this time, the dog can only make two choices. Come in and get a nice pat, maybe a treat and a chance to try again. OR they can resume their business and have another correction. They have to realize their best option is to come in everytime and get the AWESOME reward, or be corrected and not really get anything. I NEVER mess around with this command - I have seen too many dogs killed or seriously injured because this command was lacking. Make this command black and white.

This is a hound mix correct? (I'd love to see a bigger picture, from the small one she looks a lot like my dogs.)
From my experience they are VERY food motivated. What kind of treats are you using when practicin the recall? You might also consider a new word for the command if the one you are using is really corrupted.
As for her attacking other dogs, as she matures there is a good chance this will only escalate, especially since if I understand correctly this dog has been attacked in the past.
I have a fear aggressive hound, In his mind the best defense is a good offense.
Dogs don't really need other dog friends, it can be nice to let them play with other dogs to blow off steam, but truly she is perfectly fine without it.
You will have to get very good at stopping other dogs from approaching. I am small and not intimidating looking at all, but have managed to learn the body language that says I mean it.
When someone asks if their dog can meet us, or play I just say I'm sorry no. If that doesn't work I tell them he bites.
I have also taught Loki to go into a down between my legs so that I can physically block other dogs if need be.

I love these boards and you all!!
Thank You for the input!!
Yes she is a Lab/hound mix..I think..
Yes she had a REALLY bad attack when she was a puppy..It's how I ended up with her..The new owners said they didn't want a "damaged" dog! Booo on them..She is really so so sweet! When we do go out to Lowes or Travel she has always been good..Sits when meeting other dogs..Doing the down dog..So this new thing where she attacked my friends old dog took me by shock BUT I should have know better then to set her up in that situation.
So for the recall..I am using treats, usually hot dogs, or some type of meaty treat..It works for a little bit and then she is off smelling around..looking at birds..eating grass..anything but listening! When we do the "Here" in Pet Smart, Lowes or in the house it works better but still I don't trust that if something caught her eye that she would listen..
So for our family we really wanted her to be social and friendly..With other dogs and people. So when we travel or out on walks we have a happy, friendly dog..Maybe I am looking at this the wrong way..???? Could it be that because of her history I need to be more protective of her interaction? I want to be really clear on my mistakes and be sure to correct my behavior as well..

Hounds have very powerful sniffing instincts
Do you throw a party when she comes to you?

I do give her praise but I'm thinking I need to do way more..
Her nose is sometimes out of control..Forgive my bluntness but she is perfect BUTT height ya know what I'm saying...Not good when someone new comes over and her first shot is up the back side!

Not really a rescue, I took his mother in when she was pregnant for a friend and whelped the pups. It was a total oops litter and they were going to give the dog up because they couldn't handle pups.
He followed me around from the beginning so he stayed when the other pups where placed. Momma got spayed and sent back to her people.
Set her up to succeed, even if it is only coming from 3 feet away in the house with no distractions.
I would really consider using a new word for this and starting fresh.
When she gets to you throw a serious party, the kind you would be totally embarassed for anyone else to see.
Use the new word for all good things, meal times, treats, playtime etc. You want coming to you to be the best thing in the world.
Once she has that down move to the next small level of distraction, whether that be from further away indoors, the yard or whatever.
Make sure you have a drag line on her so that she can't blow you off.
You can link to a picture on a photo hosting site like flickr or photobucket, or even facebook if it is set as public.
