I have decided that Cori is the reincarnation of Frank Sinatra or at least one of his pets.......
She brings new meaning to the phrase "I did it my way".....
First the breeding.
She comes into heat (two months late mind you) and since it is an out of town trip I start prog. testing. And of course as the numbers are reaching that magic benchmark we are faced with the upcoming weekend with a girl that is getting close.
No prob, pay for a stat test so I have the results back the next morning. (1/2 day at the vets on Saturday) Which of course means I have to get up before dawn to get her to the vet before 9am which is when the lab picks up.
Vet calls first thing Saturday and based on her results says definitely tomorrow, possibly tonight. I think wonderful and make arrangements to bring Cori up to meet her Georgia boyfriend on Sunday.
Invite my 70 something mom to come with me. Tell her a couple of days, a night or two out of town and we can probably hit some malls. I've used this male before and got the quickest tie in the history of Annabelle......
The gentleman with the male is a police officer that works 12 hour shifts and is graciously giving up what little free time he has these days between work, sleep, and taking care of his dogs.
Sunday. Cori cooperates and is a little floozy up to the crucial moment. No tie.
We both agree that she is just not quite ready and tomorrow will be the day!
Monday. Repeat of Sunday.
Tuesday. Yep, you guessed it..... So I find one vet that will do a vaginal smear in the morning. Did I mention we are in the middle of nowhere in Georgia?
Wed, the smear indicated the same thing her last prog test did. Today or definitely tomorrow... I'm thinking good grief, split heat cycle, has she stalled? And I'm trying to figure out how long I should stay up here and keep trying.
Did I mention that Tuesday night, shortly after eating I get hit with the worse case of suspected food poisoning I have ever experienced? I could not even keep down a mouthful of tepid water....
Wednesday morning after the visit to the vet we head over to try this doggie sex thing again. I'm much improved, a mouthful of water is staying with me at least 1/2 an hour or so.
I'm telling Kevin not to take it personally if I get sick over his shoes or something, the pen the two dogs and two humans in while spacious doesn't leave much maneuvering room in these type of situations.
Miracle of all Miracles we have a tie.
Cori is still not quite on board with this whole tie thing though. Somehow in a split second, while tied, she jumps in the air and lands on her back.
Still tied.
These type of things have been known to have very serious consequences for the male and his future breeding career. Bo just looks over his shoulder to see what that crazy sable girl is doing and looks at her as it to say, I don't care what kind of antics you pull, I have earned this tie, you have put me thru hell, and I am going to stay tied.
Kevin of course if kind of frantically instructing me to get her up and I'm trying to figure out how the heck I'm going to do that and get all of the legs in the right place.... Not sure how but I kind of grabbed her by her coat, set her right side up and all is good....
That night my mom gets the same virus I had the night before. Hits her a little bit worse and I'm so close to calling an ambulance, I don't have a clue to where the nearest hospital is.
Next day tie number two. Cori manages to stay in the upright position and is laughing at me as I'm ready to grab her if she repeats her flip from the day before.
We all shake hands Cori and Bos do the canine equivalent of a good bye kiss and we head home.
So with all my calculations tomorrow is the absolute earliest Cori can deliver and I'm thinking more Monday or Tuesday.
Had an appointment for an xray yesterday and I cancelled it because she was getting stressed in the car. She normally loves the car, but I just figure she's nesting a little bit. I shrug it off because after 7 or 8 pups the accuracy seems to tumble down because pups are hiding and she's big enough that if she stops at 4 I don't really need the xray to let me know we're in trouble.
So I figure I'm going to be in lock down for a few days and I call my mom to see if she wants to go to the next town over, do the flea market and get a nice lunch out.
Cori is all fun and kisses, no sign of labor, no more nesting. Nothing.
Get about 15 miles down the road and my husband calls and says Cori just had a puppy.
Turn around and pretty much walk in as Cori is delivering pup number two. She refuses to have them in the whelping box, prefers the corner of the room but moves them to the box when she is done. Would really really like to have them in her crate.
She pops out 7 like a Ford Assembly line and is now taking a break...
This girl is a trip...... My goal is to get her out where we can take a quick walk on leash with me with towel ready. So far she is having none of that idea, but I really like them to walk around when ever possible, I feel it's way healthier....
She's a beautiful mom. Looks very proud of herself and is giggling when she thinks I'm not looking.
