Hello All,Currently in Western Australia there is a review of the dog act.A current Position Paper is now out & in line with the new Animal Welfare Act.This will give RSPCA Inspectors & Local Council Rangers(Animal Control) unprecedented powers eg powers to seize barking dogs without warrants or court orders.We in Australia have in recent years seen a decay in personal freedom due to more & more government rules & regulations.Our fearless leader(ha ha ha )little Johnny Howard has made it near impossible for the average man to own a gun.Handgun ownership (legally) forget it due to cost.Now the good part Schutzhund will become illegal as will any protection training done in public places such as parks & ovals.It may even be illegal to do this on your own property if it can be seen by the public.All "guard dogs"including schutzhund dogs will have the same restrictions placed on them as "Declared Dangerous Dogs" eg muzzled all times in public, special ID collars etc etc etc.Prong & electric collars are to be used Only by authorised people,whatever that means?The RSPCA has made it clear they wish to Totally Ban Schutzhund in Australia.Isn't this how Nazi Germany started? Can you please cite the laws passed or legislation that made it *easier* to own firearms or trained dogs in Germany at any time from WWI to WWII?

I do not subscribe to the criminal and murderous philosophies of dictatorships, but I do watch for them in elected officials. The slightest concession in firearms or dog ownwership is the beginning of a downward spiral. I have statistics showing that home invasion crimes went up over 700% in Australia since the turn in. The middle ground is shrinking and the extremes continue to grow in that the recidivicism (sp) rates in every civilized nation are climbing and those who are the victims become repeat victims. If the means of self defense are taken away, does that mean the cause for self defense will go away? Pure, unadulterated ignorance. Politicians with armed bodyguards make decisions regarding your personal safety everyday. In the event a dog or gun is deployed for their preservation, they don't even face the litigation or criminal aspect of having done so. Implied indemnity must be wonderful.

It is a crime to posess a handgun in N. Ireland; ask British soldiers how safe it is for them. I care not to debate the issue of whether or not British occupation of N. Ireland is criminal; the fact remains that the theoretical absence of firearms just make those more determined to find other means for their end. That is not to say my next residence will be downtown Mogadishu, either; there must be balance. Why are the individuals within a populace assumed ignorant or incapable without incidental support? Remember what a few with box cutters did on a couple of commercial airliners just two short years ago. No guns or dogs there.

As far as the protection dog ban, I believe it starts with Vicious Dog and Banned Breed legislation. I once thought that because I am not an advocate of the American Staffordshire or Pit/ Pit mixes, banned breed legislation would not effect me. How short sighted. Certain insurance companies will not provide homeowners with insurance if the homeowner has a particular breed of dog in that home, regardless of the specific animal and homeowner. Statistical data my ass.

Your dollars, be they Canadian, American, Australian, Euro or other, make you the most powerful person in your county / district/ state /region. Make your money talk by supporting other candidates and forums that make you heard. Pick up a picket sign, don't walk away from the opposition; debate them inteligently at every opportunity. I am almost constantly discussing the merits of Schutzhund and the breeding philosophy that comes with it with its opposition because they do not understand it. Be public, professional and above all, informed.

I spent 6 hours with a friend who's a lawyer with the Ministry of Justice looks like they have already "backed doored" legislation under the new Animal Welfare Act that has already taken effect(April 2003).I have pages of notes but I'm buggered if I can now find the relevant section now,always the way.I was informed Schutzhund &/or any protection training could easily be deemed as "an animal fought by a person" which comes under "Prohibited Activity" the same as dog fighting.Penalty up to $50k &/or 5yrs in the big house.Even suppling a venue (like I do now on my 40 acres) or even being a spectator up to $20k &/or 2yrs at the big house.My friends advice STOP NOW.I'm screwed time to move.This once great nation is already half way down the S-bend just waiting for someone to flush.Thanks Naa-Dei but it's to late All the best JD
