I will keep you "guys" posted. Right now I have to walk them until I can gather a special "care package" for the vet.
Good luck on the walk
My pup (13 wks at the time) had diarrhea Thursday, fed him white rice boiled in extra amount of water (to help keep him hydrated), mixed 2 parts rice with 1 part low-fat cottage cheese, per vet's instructions, on Thursday night. Was waiting for a stool sample on Friday morning but the rice and cottage cheese bound him up so well there was no stool at all on Friday! He had been wormed the week before for roundworms found in a stool sample and expelled a couple of long roundworms after the 3 day treatment. Really unnerved me, so gross.
The breeder had wormed him with Nemex 3 times before I got him, so I was surprised to find out there were any worms at all, particularly so far along in their growth cycle only 4 weeks later. So he was wormed with Panacur. The breeder told me he could be checked again at 6 months for worms, so glad I didn't wait! He would have had these worms for another 3 months if I had!

Hi Steve. If your vet hasn't already run a fecal culture then have one done. My pup went a month with diarrhea and we did every test under the sun...except the fecal culture and guess what? He has salmonella and most likely came from the breeder with it since he had loose stool from day 1. He's starting his second week of antibiotics and his stool is finally normal and I'm starting to relax. I should also add that diarrhea was the only symptom of salmonella that my pup had. He was otherwise completely normal-acting and energetic. Hope this helps.
As I told Connie I think im going to look for a new vet and have all the tests re-done. I will make sure to add that to the list. Since I was focused on giardia and paracites. How long is the treatment for your pup btw?

He's on Amoxidrops for 2 weeks but I'm going to ask for 1 more bottle (for a total of 3 weeks) just to be sure. I'll also have another fecal culture run at the end of the treatment to see where things stand. Cultures probably should be done more frequently but, more often than not, they come up clean and they are fairly expensive to do. Ask your vet for copies of your file (or have them faxed directly to your new vet's office)and have the new vet start with those results. It is always helpful for a Doc to see what's been done. It would also be helpful to know if any your tests were done in-house or sent out. The outside labs generally always get it right so you may not need to re-run everything. Finally, it is important to try and get as fresh a stool sample as you can. Old poop (older than a day)isn't going to necessarily produce good results. Hang in there and you'll get to the bottom of this
Giardia dies after just a short while out of the body, so a pre-collected stool sample will almost never be positive. Straight from dog-to slide-to scope is the best way to nail it down, and even then, they can shed the oocytes sporadically. Hope you get the cause targeted right away.
