In the Czech vs. DDR thread, you specifically asked me what was wrong with breeding for color, so I explained to you my opinion on the practice.

I'm not intending to be a hothead...you asked me a question and didn't seem to like the answer, oh well, not my problem. I read all of your posts and replies and I am fully aware of your statements regarding 'breeding for all the right reasons', but when you use vague terms like 'Noble', 'Loyal', 'Sensitive' & 'Dignified' to desribe your breeding goals...you're not telling me a whole lot. Furthermore, throghout all of your explainations you continue to invoke color as a breeding criteria, while at the same time trying to say that color isn't important. The continuity between your statements, questions & web page is lacking, and has become a bit confusing.

I couldn't care less if you breed two Black GSDs together, especially if the dogs complimented eachother in Drive, Temperament & Character. Hell, a friend of mine is breeding his black female to a black male, and I think it will be a great litter. Both dogs happen to be black...but that's not the reason for the breeding. My point is that if you breed emphasizing a single trait, like color, or highly subjective traits then you're on the fastrack to oblivion.

I did not intentionally do this, but purely by luck i manage to find a stud dog that had qualities that would compliment my females and improve some that were not so strong.

The whole tone of your original post sounds like it was posted solely to start an argument.
There's nothing wrong with breeding for beauty if the animals being bred are structurally sound. And that's all I have to say to you as I prefer not to be goaded on this website.

Shan, here's my problem--

You said you were breeding your next litter for blacks,

the title of your website says "Welcome to Brashawin Black German Shepherds."

You start the debate about breeding for color.

You had on your website a lengthy bit of information all about your goal being large black shepherds, links, why you were breeding for black, etc.

Then you backpeddled and said you weren't breeding for black in this post--

But in your website you clearly and repeatedly stated that you WERE, in fact, breeding for black as your main goal. When this was pointed out in my post, within a 45 minute period you deleted those sections from your website. Why? If you see nothing wrong with it, why did you delete all of what you had written about why blacks are better as soon as that was pointed out?

Also, as for the dogs that you're breeding (before the links were shut down) nothing was mentioned about hip certification, temperament testing (although, before you deleted it, there was LOTS of information about them being black or producing black!) and by the statements on your own website, none of them were titled (a breeding female was "just beginning in obedience" you wrote) with the exception of the dog you are using in an upcoming litter, who, big shock, happens to be BLACK, but beyond that you know very little about him, by your own admission on this board!

You don't have the info on the dog or the kennel he came from and you're going to use him as a stud?! You say the dog had "certain qualities" you were looking for? What qualities were you looking for, exactly, since you obviously know nothing about him except that he's black?

You "compete in obedience" yet your breeding dogs have no titles?

Even people who breed white shepherds have the courage of their convictions and stand by what they believe, regardless of negative feedback. You don't even do that, you're waffling all over the place.

If you're not breeding for black, and your dogs don't have titles (working or show), and there is nothing listed in regards to hip certification or pedigree--Then exactly what ARE you breeding for at "Brashawin Black German Shepherds?"

How are you improving the breed? This isn't even a show versus working debate. How are you even improving the showline? How are you any different from a pet store or puppy mill that caters soley to the whim of the public?

I've obviously got a sore spot on this subject. I don't post often, but I thought this was important. However mad you get about my comments or anyone else's, please consider WHY these things are being said. It's not because people don't like black shepherds. Personally, i think they're gorgeous. Think about what you're doing and how to improve and not screw up the German Shepherd breed.

Holy cow, that's a lot of internet classifieds. "!!!RARE SOLID BLACK GERMAN SHEPHERDS!!!" practically in blinking neon lights!

Some of the pedigrees just have the color of the dogs, no titles. That should answer some questions about the titles of the dogs used for breeding.

I think if you want to breed to produce great working "black dogs" go for it, I know what you are saying about asking out of curiousity" no big deal, hey at least you are asking.A dog IMO does not have to have a title to be bred.I work with many dogs that have no titles and are far better than the ones with.So do your research as you have, keep the breed to a good standing and I wish you luck, I hope your breeding is successful, and you get great dogs out of them.Good luck to you!
