Willie: Here's hoping that Eddie is on the mend. I understand Celiac, as my father had it and any carbs set off his system BIG TIME! That one would be an easy fix.
You need to take care of yourself as well as Eddie. We tend to forget ourselves when our "babies" are hurting.
Thanks for asking.
We couldn't get him to eat with the powder, so we gave him a pill...Drontal plus.
I gave it last night.
He ate well yesterday...3 pork necks and 1/4 lb ground beef...that's the most in a while...also prolly 2 cups milk.
Today he hasn't wanted to eat today...I figured that The pill might be making him feel off today.
He has a great attitude though, he was playing last night.
Have you seen him pass any dead worms? If he has a bad enough infestation to make him this sick, you should actually see the results.
I'm hesitant to think it's only intestinal worms.... keep looking, though, you'll get a breakthrough eventually! I know you'll find the answer and get him straightened out.
I was looking at the worming as more to just be sure.
I really think celiac , IBD or Pancerititis.
He seems to be feeling better tonight..he ate another pork neck, so that is 2 for today.
We will see how he does tomorrow with the food.
Yesterday he ate a bunch for him, so that is great.
I'm feeling pretty good about our plan.
Like I said, I have no problem with more tests, I'm going to give him 2 more days to see consistent improvement..
Like, I want to see him eating a consistent and increasing amount.
Hi Willie,
Might be whipworm.
When I first rescued my shepherd she was super skinny. Ate well, but every few weeks would stop eating, loud growling in her stomach, uncomfortable, with horrible, bloody stool. I brought samples into the vet, told them what was happening, but they didn't find anything. Finally, after switching vets, she was diagnosed with whipworm. I guess it can be cyclical and difficult to detect. After the three dose protocol of Panacur, she's gained 10 lbs and is doing great. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what Eddie has. I remember being horrified at the bloody stool from Tessa.
Best of luck to you both!
i ve been trying to think what advice i could provide you - my dog is still skinny but started doing well on raw after an exasperating month of diarrhea and no food. got better when we dewormed (dolthene worked like magic) and gave meds to get his flora back to normal . .
all i can say is to hang in there. it s great that Eddie s eating again! i can imagine how relieved you must feel.

very true!
i didnt realize it till after but i dropped 5kgs during that month. so just follow the plan but try to take some tiny time off to recuperate. i found myself glued to the computer trying to figure out every single possibility and going from vet to vet.
i guess you also gotta put your trust in the people around you and believe that things are gonna be ok.
Sorry if this has been brought up, and I haven't read the entire post but I remember this 1 GSD that was picky with eating, skinny and with abnormal stools and he had a pancreatic insuffiency issue. I think he took Pancrezyme as a supplement.
Thanks to both of you.
We are looking at his pancreatic function...
Michael, I followed your thread, and was glad to hear that your pup is doing better.
Eddie continues to improve slowly..we are trying different things..forms of meat.
His appetite is slowly increasing.
He still isn't eating as much as he should be though, but is improving.
His anti nausea meds are done today, so I am interested to see if that makes a difference in his diet.
I'm starting to wonder if we have a Celiac dog that had a pancreatic incident.
He isn't interested in anything with a high fat content...I had to skim the milk...
I'm about to take him in for the pancreatic blood test.
Anyone have experience with that test?
All I can remember about the pancreatic testing is something about TLI and it took a few days. Not sure if fasting is required or even if that is the current recommendation. Sorry, will keep thinking....
