You also see in the Guard dog that property has gone under or out of business. It has no other purpose in life.
Its almost a tradition in the bull terrier trade if a dog loses/won't or can't work (as they call it) he no good, and disposed of.
Don, Where do YOU see this in police and working dogs? When exactly? Funny I have been in the rescue world for quite a while and I can count off the number of "disposed of" patrol dogs on one hand.... and even those I question the stories on. (rescues are notorious for inflating a story) (example; dog that was a police dog hopeful washes out, ad is placed that the dog was an ex k9)
If a dog is in pain so that he/she can no longer be made comfortable enough to sleep around the house, then yes, by all means put it down. But the way you talk when a dog is no longer working on the street it is dead...
Pet owners are worse about dumping dogs than your average working dog person. Hands down. They don't get dumped because they are too old... they get dumped because they are too big, too noisy, not socialized, etc.
So far as the guard dog, again where do you get your info? Animal planet?
And yes, in pit bulls, they are disposed of in one way or another. But being the sport that they are retired from does not make them the type of dog that can go anywhere and do anything, 'mercy death' may be the best option.

We are not talking about the general public, I was talking about the informed working public on a wide spectrum.
And now it rare that a dog is trained or allowed to be a one person dog. But in the military and Police or Security forces, some dogs are disposed of because they can't be placed, due to being too focus or one purpose/man dogs. It has and does happen. There was recent article on this board about a Miltary trained Mal that might be Xed.
So I won't apologize for you not seeing any this, or that it happens so rare, that doesn't show up chart sheet or you just don't know these facts. I will say that though you know a lot, you don't know everything that happens every where.
I know I don't. This is why I can see anothers person reality and though its different then mines I won't doubt it unless, its far fecthed.
You write as though I was talking about every patrol dog is disposed of. I wrote only the ones that fit a certain critera.
I find that each week there is some one out of the loop that gets smacked or asked "Why is your reality not like the Pros or Sport trained experts". Not in these words. But I think its good to look back to see how far we acheived.
I know you guy want good information posted that will help other users and promote good training.
But because I'm not an expert (it takes years you know that) I don't have an opinion or haven't seen what I've seen is getting ridiculous.

I think I'm just going read the post, and not post for a while or post some where else.
Until its someone else turn in the barrel.
I apologize I didn't finish reading your entire quote, you are entitled to agree to disagree. I thought that was a punch in the face again. I guess I'm getting punch drunk around here.
Don - I reopened this thread to warn you about your posts (in public) I would hate that anyone would take your post about police service dogs being disposed of seriously. You are talking out you ass and don't have a clue about what you are talking about. It is a stupuid comment and I would hate to think that any novice would think you knew what you are talking about.
