Will your refusal to socialize him so that meeting people is a normal part of his day. And the fact you would rather correct a puppy using the e-collar for being SO excited with company coming over rather than do the easy thing and socialize...............
I think you probably are right to give up on this dog. He seems too energetic, intelligent, and starved for attention for any training methods in you use.
Will the breeder take him back so he can reach his potential? He sounds like a great dog for a person more experienced with this type of dog.
Ok, first of all, I’m back like I promised.
I had 5 pages of stuff written, but lucky for you, I had to break my computer down again to make it run like a friggen Porsche and in the processes certain things were erased. No biggie. I covered my end for the important things and that “report” wasn’t one of them.
Now that I am back, and my baby (the computer) is purring like a kitten, I am ready to get back to these boards again.
Now, I will make this as brief and as simple as possible as most don’t like to read long posts.
OK here we go.
Will your refusal to socialize him so that meeting people is a normal part of his day.
Uh, miss? Since when did I say he’s not socialized or I keep him from being socialized? Sorry but I have NO idea what your talking about. So, the way I take your comment is
“ If your dog is wild, jumping on people, whining, barking, hollering when guests are over, then the way to solve it is to “reward” the bad behavior by letting it out when its misbehaving. I am sorry and I DISAGREE with your methods of solution.
My way is better. I haven’t used the E-collar yet but I still think letting him know what is appropriate. He doesn’t whine any other time so its not like he can’t control it due to being young. Depending on the situation, I ignore it or correct his wild antics and its working.
And the fact you would rather correct a puppy using the e-collar for being SO excited with company coming over rather than do the easy thing and socialize...............
What do you own an English Bulldog? Do you KNOW how much of a nuisance a wirey malinois can be? Puppy or not, things should be taught to NOT get out of control. SO in your eyes, let it go until the dog is 2yrs old and jumping all over everyone, in their faces, and in their food, b/c “She feels that I need to let it get socialized”. HAhahaa. That’s the funniest thing I have ever heard. You must pay people to train your dog. Haha. Well, in my book, you behave in the house. Mind your manners and play with your toys. When outside then that is the appropriate place to go buck wild and do all the jumping around. And you know what? I am sticking to this. And you know what? He’s learning. It has nothing to do with socializing. It has something to do with a dog that lives in your house most of the time to go out to train, exercise, explore, etc. In the house, I don’t want things broken like you do. Sorry but no, not here. I am not playing the “ Let your dog socialize and jump over everyone”
Anyhow, next thing….
I think you probably are right to give up on this dog. He seems too energetic, intelligent, and starved for attention for any training methods in you use.
Will the breeder take him back so he can reach his potential? He sounds like a great dog for a person more experienced with this type of dog.
Who ever said I was going to give him up? Where do you come up with this stuff? HAhahaha.
Too energentic? Me? Slow? How can I be? What do you think the D-1 (means you can’t get any more competitive in terms of college sports) football team do with a guy that can’t run or is lacking energy? Have you ever played an entire football game let alone on the college level? Let’s just say you have to have endurance, energy, strength, and at the same time figure out which plays would be best. Everyone out on the field has to be on the same page mentally? Its easier seen, said, etc, than done.
From what I am told by people I meet for the first time. Frankly, I do. Anyone who knows me KNOWS I am one overly active person. I am MORE than enough for him. I hate to say it but I am more apt than you want to give me credit for. I know your type. I am OVERLY qualified to handle this dog. I really don’t care what you think or believe. I was getting opinions andyou and the rest gave them. Some more helpful than “others” but nonetheless got what I wanted.
Trust me, I work his ass off EVERYDAY!!!. NO day goes by without working of some sort. Ball drives work, prey drive training, bite work, swimming laps (he’s young and its easy on his joints), obedience and so on. He gets WORKED. He comes back so tired you wouldn’t BELIEVE.
Intellegence? I know, that’s why I work his ass off. I don’t believe in ANY dog laying in my house. You go out and learn tasks and WORK. Exercise. I run miles a day. What makes him so special to sit lazy on a blanket. Sorry, he gets up and runs too which frankly, he wants to anyway. But the thing for him is he gets a twist of new tasks and things to deal with. You don’t even know. My pup can withstand gun shots, elevators, football crowds (30,000 people screaming and cheering), escalators, crazy bar idiots, etc and not cower or be afraid. He from my hard work has become a VERY confident dog. He is socialized all right. But in more ways than you know. I am RAISING an AWESOME dog here. Push the whining aside. I am doing more socializing than you think. I am not the new kid on the block with dogs let me tell you. Seriously, my dog will hit a sleeve so hard that for a young adolescent pup you’d be amazed.
About the breeder taking him back so a “more experienced” person can handle this type of dog. Yea, I brought him back a few times. At this point they want him back and are trying to buy him off me. He said “this little dog has nerves of steel and has drives through the roof. He’s really coming along. Hey, keep in contact, we may have a breeding project with some of the guys I know”
The police officers here know my dog and know he’s doing awesome. The one officer was surprised at what he’s become so far so soon. Hell, I spend 5hrs a day with him messing around to training.
Oh yea, but I forgot, he did it all on his own from not being socialized and in a shoe box his whole life from the time I got him at 6wks old.
So frankly, I don’t care about what you say I am NOT doing. Whining has NOTHING to do with NOT socializing in this case or theirs. Like a few people has explained here or another post in the board “their dog whines but he’ll still do his job working” So in other words, it isn’t festered by lack of socialization. Behaving is also a MUST in controlling such a driven dog. What good is a dog that does excellent obedience work if you can’t let him out in your house with guests and jumping all over everybody. Sorry, I don’t agree with that. Sorry, it doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense to me.
