Alyssa sorry, but thats a very broad brush you're tarring liberals with.
That's the same thing as saying the leading light of conservatives is Jim Adkisson.
A scum bag is a scum bag is a scum bag, no matter the colors they fly.
Whatever side of the aisle the scum felt they were supporting he should have had his ass kicked, arrested, and held in the slammer for 24 hours before being charged with assault.....charges of sedation to follow.
Educate your community on whats happening at the town hall, the state house, and in DC on how it all effects them.
Randy, that wasn't meant to say that all liberals would have spit on me.
But trust me, the kid was a left-winger (granted, a FAR left-winger).
Regardless, the whole reason I wore the uniform, was to ensure the continued right of people to hold political ideologies that are different from mine.
I vote. I'm not quite sure why I bother, but I vote.
Maybe I just like the sticker.
Regardless, the whole reason I wore the uniform, was to ensure the continued right of people to hold political ideologies that are different from mine.
It is a bit ironic that the scum bag who would spit on a member of the military is only free to do so because of the fact that the military is willing to fight to protect that "freedom"... Can you imagine a citizen of China spitting on a member of their military and walking away unscathed?
I recently had a very "passionate" discussion with a 21 year old niece who sat in my living room and said "I don't think socialism IS all THAT bad" and followed up with "the Constitution was written hundreds of years ago and isn't really relative anymore"... I've always said I would fight to the death to protect the rights of the American people to express political views and ideologies different than mine, but I have to admit, that view gave me cause to pause and reflect...
I agree with Randy that education is critical... what is amazing to me is that this niece's new found political beliefs were born in college; prior to then her view point was dramatically different. Trying to get her to now read a book which explains why our Constitution was written the way it was or a historical book on the history of socialism is useless at this point; it is all "propaganda" in her mind since it wasn't/isn't discussed by her enlightened professors.
Public primary education, and virtually all secondary education in this country has become decidedly biased towards the left.
I noticed it in '96 when I left the Department of Defense School system and entered "public" school. Suddenly America went from being the strongest most free nation in the world, to a country of racist, oppressive jerks.
College is only worse. People are naturally idealists at that point in their lives- they haven't really had a dose of reality. Conforming into society is frightening, and anyone telling them that society isn't really all that great, and certainly not worth joining is going to have a captive audience in a college full of frightened 20 year olds.
This is why I elect to spend my hard earned money to send my son to private school (and THEN I pay taxes to support public school, on top of it...)
I've decidedly stayed on the fence in this discussion, in fact I don't plan on even dangling my feet off the top edge.
Because......I don't really think it's a question of left or right. Whose right or whose wrong. Imho it's a question of participation in the community affairs from voicing a concern at a school board meeting to making a run at the daunting task of being President of the United States.
Ones education doesn't stop at high school, college, or when you reach the ancient age of 30. It should never stop. And one can not be educated by preaching to the choir or just occupying a pew in said choir. One simply must engage oneself in exchange of ideas, be it by reading, writing, or face to face with a neighbor over the fence.
That's the great thing about America, we are not just one thing. A dyed in the wool communist could be living next door to a rabid Ayn Rand reactionary and they'll have BBQ's together on Sunday lounging around watching their kids playing with each other in the pool.
All this talk of hopelessness for 'my' cause........
Everyones cause is the same. It's not called power. It's name isn't control. It's a name recognized all over the world for what it stands for, the United States of America.
You have a view point? Great I want to hear it! I expect the same favor in return. But walls make for very poor communication devices so lets pretend to be sitting on top while we talk shall we?
That's sort of thing is what I include when I talk about educating those around me, and I in turn learning someone elses truth.
In the mean time just get them to turn off the stupid television!
