Why follow a faulty plan? Cuz that's the parent org, and we play by their rules. And it has become a huge source of pride (for some reason which escapes me) that we perform well at the WUSV. Don't forget that the SV is under pressure all the time to change the format of the Sch protection phase to eliminate the courage test all together and replace it with a call off and H&B, due to public pressure. Perhaps, and I'm only guessing here, they are doing the best they can to balance the PR aspects and keep the sport from being banned.
Heres a question: Is the *most import* goal of the protection phase to find the dog with the best looking fighting technique, or the finding the dog with the best fight in it? Which ever org does the best job would be better, right?
Originally posted by Sch3FH2: From what I've seen, neither org does that. DVG judges will pass anything on four legs, and USA is too technique oriented. While I am not cheerleading anyone........how can you state that DVG will pass anything on four legs. While maybe from what you have seen, but the SV will do the samething. I have seen and have been told German trainers that they can get a dog passed that does not perform to a 70/70/70 pass. We all that have been around imports, are baffled at the garbage show and working line dogs, in how they got a title after working them. And these are dogs that were shown under an SV judge. I am not saying that this is not going on with DVG......I have not seen dogs passed under a DVG judge that did not meet the bare requirement, I am sure it happens, as it does with the SV. I have not seen this done with our USA judges. But USA is a direct reflection of the SV.
While weaker dogs (in protection) are passed in DVG, and not pointed as heavy in DVG with the grip, but in all fairness if a dog hangs on by its front teeth or bites 1/2 chances are it will get banged points. USA has passsed and given soft dogs that I know are soft. Both organizations have thier short-comings.
What I can say is that I have had more exposure to some of the Judges in USA then in DVG, and they do have great values and are really good people. This is not what I question. From what I have seen of the DVG judges with the exception of one, I think the same. I just feel that USA by following the SV, and really if we want to compete in the WUSV every year, needs to revise this crazy sleeve sucking rule. What is crazy is when the head German judge commetns how great a dog that bites hard and 3/4 is, but must bang him points for not biting full. Something is wrong.
I am also not stating that because my dog is titled under a DVG trial he is a tougher dog then the dog that trialed under SV rules. This is a foolish outlook, if one takes it.
hey, to go back to sch3fh2's question about a H.O.T. team qualifying for the world's, does anyone know the percentage of ALL the dogs in the world championships: are most of them H.O.T. from all the different countries?
I do not know exact numbers, but alot of the dogs are trained by other people other then the people that are showing them. I am sure the numbers are higher for HOT from other countries then here in the States, but I know of dogs that were shown by people that only got the dog after the dogs had some training.
I think though that if there was a 280 rule that got you a spot on the the if you had a HOT dog, that would give people more of an incentive to train pups to SCH3.
Ok, so I don't know how to edit a post! That was NOT a "never mind" as in "I give up" (much to your disappointment, no doubt <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> ); that was never mind as in ignore the post I just deleted if you saw it, which you didn't cuz you were not attending to business and monitoring the board!
