i'm just curious how many folks here in the u.s. are interested in knpv or are currently training knpv? i've cruised around some of the dutch websites and watched some videos and am totally fascinated. i realize there is not, currently, any knpv competitions taking place here or even a u.s. organization, but i am just curious how much activity and interest is out there?

KNPV has had a couple weak starts here in the US.
It is a unique program to the Netherlands and the Dutch would resist its export. In fact you now must be Dutch to join the organization, a tightening of the rules since the flood of foreigners who had joined (myself included).
They also resist the use of the KNPV as a commercial endorsement and they even changed the insignia and developed rules to prevent its use this last year.
It is fascinating to watch and has a very unique character unlike any other program. But it is Dutch and changing that would change the program. Best it is left to the Dutch.
I would love to see the KNPV brought to the US, but as Kevin pointed out, it was botched bad enough in it's last attempt that I doubt the Dutch would consider it again.
I would like to see the NVBK expand, as it has been introduced here. It would be nice to see NAPWDA work with the sport programs in the US to develop something like the KNPV in Holland, where the PH1 represents the dog's eligibility to enter Police K9 school.

..........well, it's a pity that that happened, but saying that it is a dutch thing and should be left to the dutch would be just as foolish as saying that schh is a german thing and should have been left to them or french ring being a french thing and we should have left well enough alone. over the years, i have become very tired of discouraging remarks - to the point of becoming belligerant. even if there is no organized group for any given sport, one can certainly train his own dogs as he sees fit.
.............i would have to agree with that. it would be nice, if someday, we had access to all the sports that the europeans currently enjoy. whether a branch of their organizations or an independent organization, it would be nice to have a testing program that has its roots in some kind of sport that could give reliable indications of a dog's working ability. recent info that i was able to gleen from the net and from some folks that i know, indicates that washout rates for police/military dogs runs from at least 30-70% depending on the amount of preselection done. no wonder most "working" dogs are imported thru agencies that deal in specifics. "working" dogs cannot be acquired with any reliability from showlines or schh sport dogs; perhaps to a little greater degree from the ringsports and knpv. i just think it would be nice to have that option, to be able to make that choice....several different training disciplines to choose from. and ofcourse, different dogs will excel in different areas.
