Bounette I think what seems like shortness has more to do with the culture of this particular web board. This isn't the only dog training web board I frequent. Each one has it's own culture/climate. Some boards are focused more on the pet owner while this one is frequented by very experienced trainers who work and compete in dog sports and professions with no room for mistakes. Thus there is very little "hand holding" from these trainers. They say it like it is and sometimes it comes off a little short. It isn't that they are being overly critical or that they are trying to shoot you down. They just tend to be more direct than you will find on other forums.
Personally I think that if you have a dog aggression problem this is the best place to find advice. These people deal with aggressive dogs on a daily basis and have LOTS of experience. Please try to look past their tone of voice and see the advice they are trying to impart. Some of the dogs these people work with are living weapons. Try mishandling a weapon on a shooting range and you will get some pretty sharp responses from the person running the weapon range. They aren't trying to hurt your feelings they are trying to insure the safety of you and others nearby in this case it's you and your children.
It sounds like you are starting over correctly. Keep up that good work but don't try to rush things. It sometimes seems daunting to follow the whole pack structure groundwork but in time it gets easier and eventually becomes automatic. How long it takes is however long it takes to be 100% sure the dog's issues have been properly dealt with. Remember that this is an adult dog and may have been mishandled in the past. It always takes longer to correct a problem than it does to prevent one.

i absolutley agree with certain things you stated. i come here also because i know of the expertise that belongs to this board. i don't know why everyone is gettign from this that i am not going to follow thie things advised. everyne is getting so caught up in these heated feelings they are shooting out. and to say i have not been attacked is wrong. when some one tries to make assumptions about me and my personal life when i asked very specific questions and stated very specific facts about a dog i am having issues with, well, if that is not seen then i dont' know what to say. anyhow...
MOds please close this down. i have gotten plenty of great advice in between the sarcasm and spitefull words. thankyou all for yur wisdom and expertise.
Matt,
What you said has a lot of merit. You have a good idea about what this forum is all about.
I often see posts where the poster is basically shopping for an answer that they want to hear instead of listening to advice that points out that perhaps a child is in danger ( whose protection should of course be the number one priority )- and when the original poster doesn't seem to "get it" there are more and more posts trying to point out the danger and the OP just gets defensive.
( I'm saying this as an example, not saying that it happened here... )
And with that I'm closing the post. Thanks for the solid advice that many of you gave the OP.
I have read this thread. As I went through it I began to loose my patience with you.
I suggest you stop posting for awhile and spend more time reading.
1- You don't know anything about pack strucutre.
2- You dont know anything about PREVENTING DOG BITES IN CHILDREN
3- You seem to know less about training dogs.
Normally I would say nothing because a lot of people fall into these three catagories. But in your case you have been told and you seem to be too pig headed to listen to good sound advice.
There are articles and free ebooks on my web site about these topics. You obviously have not taken the time to read them. There are also excellent DVDs on these subjects and I know you don't have any of them.
So in closing - spend a little more time reading and less time posting to my web board. And the next time you get snotty with someone will be your last post on this board.
