I have a question on what the difference is. Recently found out tyler muto had a youtube channel and I love it; since I have watch every free video on leerburg and my 4 paid videos.
He is using a bed that the dog can completely fit on. Now I have the Michael Ellis videos (such as video above) and in those I am training on the small circle with "touch".
Questions:
Are these one an the same?
If their the same what are the pros and cons of both.
My thought is I can train the "place" (for putting dog on a bed when company is here etc) as a different concept as "touch" (training tool for different commands and ideas. Though I need to think of another word as place is between my legs. lol
I have a follow up question. What do you guys use command wise for the go around to in between legs (ellis system uses place) and the place used to settle on a surface or bed. Options?
I was using place like ellis but since she isn't super solid on that I was thinking of switching to use place for bed and ORT (German for place ....according to google) for in between legs. What do people use who train in German for in between legs?
I know this is trivial but I see two different uses for PLACE command and then wonder how they each handle the other command.
The individual command is really not important to anyone but you and your dog so anything you like is good as long as your consistent with each command.
I've run into a similar issue with "touch". I use it for a touch/pivot pad but the trainers I follow commonly use that for a hand touch. I have to consciously remind myself that I use "kiss" for a hand touch before training my own dog after watching their videos.
TOUCH -- Dog bumps nose on something
BETWEEN -- Dog goes in between my legs
MAT -- Dog goes onto a mat, rug, dog bed
TARGET -- Dog places paw/s on designated surface (inverted pan, carpet, sand patch, etc)
My Newfoundlands have to do a lot of different activities with specific commands, not just obedience, so I have had to really think about their commands, and the words have to make sense to me so I don't get confused.
