These Pet Beds are made of imitation lambskin. The Faux Shearling Dog Beds are great. They are soft and practical, they have two sides and are easily machine washed. The Sherpa is hospital grade.
Pet owners love this product because they do resist tearing and the ones we use with several of our house dogs are years old.
With that said a dog that chews is going to rip up any dog bed. People who have dogs that chew should never use a dog bed with their dog or if they do they should only use them when they have “EYES ON THEIR DOG.” A dog that chews can destroy a dog bed in 15 minutes and it’s not the fault of the product when that happens.
It is stain resistant and water absorbent. Pets love it because the soft plush pile allows air to circulate underneath so they stay cool in summer, warm in winter. It's machine washable and dryer safe with no shrinking.
We use this pet bed in our home (we have three in the house), in our whelping boxes and in our dog crates with dogs that are not chewers.
We teach the PLACE command in our home by using these beds. We can put it next to us while we watch TV or work in the office. The dogs learn that when we put the bed down and give the PLACE command they are to go lay down and stay there until we release them. The nice thing about these beds is that the dog like to lay on them because they are so soft.
By starting to use them in this manner you can also control any chewing because you will HAVE EYES ON THE DOG. If a dog starts to chew it's a simple matter of correcting the dog so he learns that chewing is unacceptable.
While these beds are extremely durable and chew ‘resistant’ this does not mean they are chew proof. They are not chew toys. A determined dog can tear, chew and shred them in very little time. Know your dog and supervise this item just like you would any new bed or bedding material.
If you have a dog that will chew anything don't leave dog beds in crate, don’t use rugs, don’t use bedding, or sheets. Dogs that chew should only have rubber mats that we sell. These rubber mats work great when. Dogs that chew are not going to chew these up. The fact is a chewer should NEVER be out of your sight when lose in your home. I tell people who have dogs that chew to go and read the article I wrote on groundwork. This article will help pet owners live with a chewing dog peacefully.

Hello Cindy & Ed,
Just wanted to say how wonderful your Orthopedic Pet Bed is! I bought the large one to teach my dog the PLACE command as recommended in your Basic Obedience DVD and she contentedly lay down on it as soon as I put it out!
We also enjoy sitting on it with her :-)

I though it was funny that when I ordered the large dog fleece dog bed and two small bags of Prowl that there was a comment on my invoice written in pink high lighter that said, Two bags of Honest Kitchen Cat Food! Its the exclamation point that got me. I felt like somebody was wondering what kind of cat I was feeding if I ordered a large fleece bed. Don't worry, the Prowl was for my ferrets. I mix it with my cooked chicken recipe to help balance it out. Prowl actually meets or exceeds our ferrets nutritional needs. The fleece was for my GSD, Echo. She chewed her other bed to ribbons, but so far, she hasn't been able to unravel the special stitching on this bed. I am very pleased so far. I love your website. I think I'm going to ask for a gift card to it for Christmas so I can order some of the DVDs. Thanks for your excellent products!
Sincerely,
Ann

Hello,
I wanted to let you know I just received my second order of the Orthopedic Lambskin Pet beds. They are incredible. Before I got my first one, I always wondered why you only sell ONE pet bed. Surely a company as large as Leerburg would offer a selection of beds. Now I know why you only offer one, you only need this one... In the past I have tried MANY beds (from other companies) for my doberman bitch, nothing was working. If it was the fake sheepskin, it was too thin and just slid around the crate or floor or car-seat If it was foam, it got filthy even inside a cover. I purchased probably 15 different types of mats and beds for her. The moment I opened the box with your 'Orthopedic lambskin pet bed' in it, I was hooked. They are WELL MADE. They are nice and thick (really thick), and give her highness the comfort she needs and deserves. She now actually chooses the bed in her crate rather than the couch. I first ordered one just a bit bigger than the floor of my plastic crate, it is wonderful. It fits wonderfully, and goes up the sides of the crate just enough to keep her comfortable and snuggled in (and it NEVER moves out of place, not even an inch). I will never use any other bed in the future. NO need to, these are just PERFECT. If they do get dirty, just throw them into the washing machine and dryer, and they are like new. I just ordered the smaller size for taking to class with her, while we do 'place' work to teach her to go to her place when company comes or whenever we want or need a break. It is perfect for carrying to class, I just roll it up with a couple of large rubber bands, and it is good to go. Thank You for always having the exact products I need, and making sure they are so well made.

Hi Stephanie, I love the website and all Leerburg has to offer. But I was very disappointed with the Orthopedic Lambskin bed I purchased last week. It's advertised as "extremely durable," and "the unique lockstitch backing makes the Pet Bed virtually impossible to unravel. Pet owners love this product because it resists tearing. This does not mean a dog that chews is not going to rip it up." I have a 5 month old lab puppy who unraveled this bed in 15 minutes! He was very happy to lay down on it, but when I returned, he had pulled the stitching apart and it is now unraveling. I don't think this is normal and was hoping for a refund or replacement. It's possible that this pad is defective. I can return the unraveling pad if you would like to see it. Thank your for you help. Matt |

Matt, My office manager sent this email to me. It sounds like your dog chewed your bed up. As big of a pain in the ass this is for you, it is not a product deficiency. It simply means you can not use dog beds with your puppy because he s going to chew them up. I am raising a Mal puppy of my own right now. He just turned 9 months old and is laying in his ex-pen right next to my desk as I type. He is like your dog – he chews these beds up so he can’t have anything in with him. The only thing I can put in the ex-pen for him lay on are these rubber mats (cow mats). No dog is every going to chew them up. I tried everything with my dog – I give him cows knuckle bones, some of the dog toys we have that can be loaded with treats and while he likes them and will work on them – if I put a dog bed in with him it’s only a matter of time before its chew up. So the fact of life is this dog will never get one. It sounds like you have a very similar situation. The last two paragraphs on that product page are: If you have a dog that will chew anything, don't leave it in the crate with rugs, bedding, or sheets. Dogs that chew should only have rubber cow mats for the crate and use these sheepskin rugs in your home like it was explained above. For those dog owners that do have dogs that chew, these mats work great when the owner is in the room and can supervise his dog. The fact is a chewer should NEVER be out of your sight. I tell people who have dogs that chew to go and read the article I wrote on groundwork. This article will help pet owners live with a chewing dog peacefully. Regards, Ed Frawley |
