Dummy collars look and weigh the same as a normal electric collar. They are often used to condition a dog to wearing a collar when people have yet to actually buy an electric collar. They are also used when a handler has more than one dog and needs to train all of his or her dogs with an e-collar.
Small strap measures (end to end) ¾” wide by 29” long – and is recommended to be similar to 175, 200, and 280NCP.
Medium strap measures (end to end) 1” wide by 29” long – and is recommended to be similar to 1900, 2300, and 3500NCP.
Large strap measures (end to end) 1” wide by 32” long – and is recommended only for dogs that require a longer strap.
The proper way to use and train with an e-collar is to condition the dog to wearing it. With the goal being that the simple act of putting the collar on does not mean anything to the dog. This is done during a two week period where the handler puts the collar on and takes it off a couple of times a day. It is rotated with the prong collar, the e-collar and the normal leather collar.
It is critical to good training that the dog does not recognize the collar going on as training and then only mind when its on.
