Description

Functionality meets style in this unique training sweatshirt. The D-Town Utility Dog Training Sweatshirt™ features a 5-pocket utility design for convenience of storing personal and dog items. This mid-weight, form-fitting pullover is designed for durability, style, comfort and function; with plenty of breathing room and ergonomic seems allow full-range movement and access to its unique pocket features. Perfect for everyday activity and sport-specific training.

Founded by Forrest Micke, Damon Jennings, and Fred Railling, D-Town Gear was born to fill the gap between utilitarian training vests and everyday active apparel. The original concept was to incorporate the functionality of a training vest into an article of clothing that could be worn on and off the training field. After 4 initial prototypes and over a year gathering feedback from other trainers in the field, the original D-Town Utility sweatshirt was born.

The shirt incorporates 5 handy pockets all uniquely designed to fit the needs of the serious dog trainer as well as the every day owner. One large pocket across the back, easily accessible from both sides to accommodate tugs, leashes, harness’s, bite pillows, and more. A smaller mesh pocket under the left arm for toy rewards. A 5x7” Velcro pocket under the right arm for your remote transmitter, wallet, slip leads, collars etc. Another 5x7” zipper pocket in the front to safely store your phone or keys during training. Along with the standard front pocket with an inner nylon lining to protect the outer material.

I'd like to order one, but would also like to see a full zipper. Easy on/off. I may order one anyway but would quickly order another one or two if they had full zippers. Thank You!! This looks great for tracking on chilly mornings! Love the thumb holes!

Love mine. Have bought 2 for myself and 2 for others including my wife. I am really, really, really hoping they come out with it in a lighter material for warmer weather. I am still getting away with using mine in the early morning here in California - but won't be able to do so for much longer. I have seen several posted several suggestions on that - so I am hoping.

Love the sweatshirt. I've been using it for two weeks now and it is perfect for me and my dog. With a heavy shirt (expedition weight long underwear) underneath, the weight of the sweatshirt is just right for a new england spring day (mid-high 30's to low 40's). The construction is really solid, good stitching and nice lined pockets.

It definitely runs small for mens sizes. I am athletically build; 6ft, 165lbs - pretty thin but with wide shoulders and long arms. I ordered a medium and it fits but is a little snug. Not enough for me to return it but definitely makes me think i should have gotten a large. The sleeves are long enough, which is great, almost no long sleeve shirt fits my gangly arms. The body is a little short though.

I'll probably order a second one in large. It'll be nice to have two of these so i can have one to wear while the other is in the wash.

In general, love this sweatshirt...
three small suggestions for improvement...put a placket or short neck zipper in...hard to get the thing on and off without totally destroying your hair! Second, a version made of a lighter material would be great..the current sweatshirt material is too warm in 70 degree California weather..can't imagine using it in the summer. Finally, it would be good to leave the velcro off both of the under arm pockets... It's hard to pull food out of them rapidly, and if the velcro sticks, it can be impossible.
I bought a medium because the product description says it runs small....I normally would order a small in a unisex sweatshirt. The medium is on the big side..I think the small might have been a better fit.

I bought this sweatshirt in readiness for an Australian winter expecting the postage to take a few weeks, it arrived in seven days, wow! It arrived on a 42C (107F) day, lol! Good quality, not fleecy lined although it doesn't purport to be but I thought I would point this out. As for the sizing, due to not being sure of US sizing I used the measurements on the site to guide me in what size to order, I would encourage people to do the same as I ended up with exactly the right size for me. Can't wait for it to cool down so I can start to wear it.

I received my D-Town Utility Dog Training Sweatshirt. I got the 2XL Blue one. I am happy with both the size and color choice. I took forward to wearing it this weekend when I train with my dog Misty. When you come out with a hooded version I will purchase one for my daughter for her Junior training.

I appreciate the helpful staff who talked through selecting the right size. I chose based on hip measurements and it worked perfectly.

Love it! It's the answer to all my day to day "pocket" problems! Wearing a training vest everyday isn't always possible, so having a sweatshirt that can hold my phone, treats, toys, leashes, collar remotes etc... is incredible! I ordered it in a size XL and it fits great, true to size. Quality is excellent, worth every penny! Ordered two colors and will be ordering to more today! Only personal dislike, it's not a hoodie. Would a absolutely love it if you could please make it in a hoodie version?

I can't believe how great this sweatshirt is, it's exactly what I needed. It has all the main features of a full training vest, but you can also wear it as an everyday sweatshirt. Not too heavy or bulky and not too light, lots of attention to detail. Love that the bottom / waist area doesn't have elastic, it just hangs comfortably without getting bunched up like "normal" sweatshirts do. The inner material is kind of a softer mesh fabric, feels super comfortable against your skin but durable at the same time.

I'm glad this doesn't have a hood, although when the hoodie version comes out I'll probably pick one up as well. The gear & paw logos aren't overdone, really nice clean design. The sizing is at least 1/2 size small I'd say. I'm 5'11", 175 lbs, 42" chest, medium build. I originally got an XL and it was just too wide in the torso area. Exchanged it for a L (I normally fall somewhere between a M and L in sweatshirts / jackets). Leerburg's exchange policy made the swap super easy (free return shipping too).

The only super minor critique I would add is regarding the thumb holes - great idea but they need to be just a little bigger. That said, I may not use them much anyway but I'm glad this unique feature is included.

If you are someone that is frequently out with your dog(s) for any reason, just get this sweatshirt. It's an easy 5-star rating. Thanks!

We love the D-Town Utility Dog Training Sweatshirt. It's got a pocket for everything and it's very comfy. This is a nice alternative to a vest and much more stylish. It will be a very practical gift to all of our trainer friends. Thanks to the great trainers who designed it! Looking forward to more gear.

I wasn't sure about the fit . I'm a woman that is 5'10'' and sleeves are usually an issue. They suggested ordering a size up. So I did just that, and ordered the large. That was a perfect fit. I can fit an extra layer top underneath if I need to. This sweatshirt is great for carrying treats for my one year old dog that is in training. And all extra pockets for training tools and a toy is very convenient. The sweatshirt is very comfortable and not bulky. I love it!!!

I just received this Sweatshirt and have already used it. I love it and will soon order another one. Wow, It looks nice and it's so functional. I am only sorry I didn't think of designing this. Thank you for carrying this product.

I have never wanted to purchase a dog training vest or top until I saw this sweatshirt. It is well thought out. Love the big pockets on the front AND back. The liners help keep it clean and make it easy for toys and tugs to slide in and out. The pockets on the sides under the arms are well placed and easy to utilize. My kong ball fits well in the left mesh pocket and doesn't get hung up when I get it out. Love the thumb holes on the sleeves, the material is soft and so far durable. If you add a hooded version I will be buying one of those also! Fit is unisex and runs a little small. Normally I wear a medium in unisex or men's. I ordered the large and it fit great.

I wore my new sweatshirt last night at the training field. It's everything I hoped for! I was glad that I did follow advice and ordered up one size because I agree they do run to the smaller size. Excellent quality and it has all the bells and whistle that I like about a training vest.

Wonderful product! Warm, comfortable, super handy for walks and trips with our pup! True to size and stylish, I feel comfortable and cute wearing it anywhere!! I can't say enough! Thanks D-Town for making such an awesome product. Can't wait for more new styles!

Way to go on creating a product that is every dog trainers dream come true all in one sweatshirt! You took the plain ole training vest to a whole new level by making this sweatshirt attractive, comfortable, highly efficient and functional! How innovative and cool! Nice work!

I love the versatility of the sweatshirt. My kind of clothing and all the pockets are fantastic.
BUT...the washing instructions makes it rather work unfriendly/ wash on gentle???? And lay flat to dry????. really? Afterall, I want to work with my dog and get down and dirty playing and training - Not take him on a date in a shirt that needs special care.

- on

As appropriately cautioned by the vendor, sizes do run small so follow their advice and order accordingly. The sweatshirt fits very nicely when picking one size up. The front pouch pocket is only lined on one side. It would be great if it were lined on both sides to protect the internal fabric from dog treats that the handler / trainer may carry in the pouch.

Would be ideal to have a loop tab on the right or left side of the hem of the sweatshirt to hold a mountain climbing clip to carry some training articles like a dumb bell.

Overall very please and very good design and would like to see additional color options like navy, orange etc. Would certainly order again if there were more color options.

Liked quality of material. Ordered one size larger as recommended and it fit well. Would like to have had the nylon that keeps cotton protected in the large front pocket also on the back side of the pocket since dog treats/kibble little oily. Love the back toy pocket and that sweatshirt looks more like normal clothing. Will wash a few times to see how it wears. Cool idea. Thanks!

I disagree with the website's description that says these sweatshirts run small. I definitely should have bought the EXTRA-SMALL. I'm swimming in the Small size (and I bought two). They are huge. I'm assuming I can't exchange them for EXTRA-SMALLS since I have already washed them (although I haven't worn them and probably won't). By the way, they wash nicely and still look brand new. The embroidery is very well done and I love the logo!
I am a woman, 5'3" and weigh about 100 lb. I would LOVE to wear the shirts for training (agility, IMPROV obedience, and scent work), BUT I doubt I'll ever wear them because they are so HUGE on me. I love the colors I purchased (red and blue) and all the shirt's features but regret that I have basically wasted my money by purchasing these shirts in the size Small and thus will not have the opportunity to experience the awesome features these shirts have when training my Airedale. DARN!

Leerburg Note: We do our best to work with our customers and keep them happy, so we reached out to this customer and will exchange her Small sized shirts for XSmall. If there is ever any question about being able to exchange something, please contact us and we will work with you- we certainly don't want anyone to be stuck with something that they are not able to use.

I really like the design of the sweat shirt ,it is made well and very good quality, my only dislike is that it run on the small side
I usually wear Large or ex-large I ordered an ex-large and its a bit snug , not enough room to wear another shirt under

Positive comments:
Quality - After one washing the material and workmanship appear to be good.
Sizing - I measured one of my favorite sweatshirts and compared its’ measurements to your size chart and ordered a medium… it fits perfectly!

Negative comments:
As another reviewer mentioned, trying to get my Roni ball out of the mesh pocket is impossible without using two hands. I will never be able to use that pocket. Also, removing my 2-Handled Synthetic Mini Tug from the rear pocket is not a smooth and quick feat. These pockets need to be completely lined with nylon! The only pocket I will use will be the zipper pocket for my phone while walking my dogs.

I thought the price at $70 was a little steep, but was willing to pay for the convenience of the pockets for toy rewards during training. Now that I have found the pockets are of little use to me, this becomes an expensive sweatshirt to wear while walking my dogs.

I really like the idea of this product and was very excited to try it. When it arrived I tried it on, to find the sizing all wrong. I am not a small person I gerenally wear a xl sweatshirt, in fact my leerburg sweatshirt is an xl. I wanted to have room for extra stuff in the pockets so I when a size larger.. with the xxl.. it doesn't even come close to fitting me. I had just light tshirt on and nothing in the pockets and it was way too tight.

- on

I've used this sweatshirt for a few training sessions now. It looks great and fits true to size (athletic fit, which is good - no excess bulk). The problem is with the reward pockets. I train with nobby balls and french terry tugs. There is no way to pull a ball from the underarm pocket by the rope with one hand for a quick reward - the fabric binds on the nobs and you have to use two hands to get the ball out - a smooth ball comes out with no problem - but I train with nobby balls for a reason. Similar problem with the back pocket --- a nobby ball or french terry tug binds --- you can't just quickly pull it out (firehose tug, no problem).

So the garment needs improvement --- the reward pockets should be lined with nylon or a similar fabric for quick release. It might then be worth the $70 price.

- on

Sizes run EXTREMELY SMALL , not cut to wear over other clothing at all, short - colors are very muted and faded looking, red is more hot pink. The ball pocket under the arm is difficult to access and cumbersome. Back pocket is great. Very soft material both good and bad, nice to the touch, tears easily.

- on

Unfortunately, I returned it. It ran too small. I felt if I ordered the XL, the sleeves and shoulders would be too large. I love the D-Town design, but also considered the thickness of the fabric as a possible return because of it. JMO
