Product Description
40% of the muzzles we sell are returned because customers make mistakes in measuring their dogs for a muzzle. We stock 60 different styles and sizes of muzzles, selecting the right one for your dog is on of the hardest thing you may have to do for your dog.
We will gladly exchange a muzzle for a different size but we cannot pay shipping on muzzle returns and exchanges. We hate to have to take this position but the number of returns has forced this policy.
We do everything we can to help customers determine what size muzzle to order. We have produced a streaming video (HOW TO MEASURE YOUR DOG FOR A MUZZLE) and we are happy to offer phone consultation.
Even with all of this help, it can still be difficult to pick the correct size. The only fool-proof way of not making a mistake is to either bring the dog to our office or do the best you can with measurements and order several different sizes, then return the muzzles that don't fit. With luck, you should end up with the correct size muzzle. The only downside to this approach is you will have to pay shipping charges to return the muzzles that didn't fit your dog.
If you still need help after reviewing our sizing video and charts, call our office at (715) 235-6502. We are open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.

Design & Uses
- All are made with polyethylene plastic with two reinforced rubber straps.
- Can be worn for extended periods without inhibiting the dog’s breathing, barking, and panting
- Dogs can drink with the muzzle on, using a water bowl or bucket. It is best to "teach" your dog that it is ok to put the muzzle into the water before leaving the dog unattended for any period of time.
- Prevents wound licking, and eating rocks, garbage, poison, etc.
- Prevents injuries from potential dog fights
- Allows dogs to use some modes of transportation when properly muzzled, which some cities and transportation companies require
Fitting a Muzzle for Your Dog
When wearing a muzzle the vinyl nose piece should ride 1/2 inch below a line drawn between the lowest points on both eyes. In our opinion, the front of the muzzle should extend 1/2 inch past the end of the dog's nose.
When muzzles are too large (too long) the dog can push its nose into the front of the muzzle which results in the muzzle being moved back up on the face of the dog and coving its eyes.
With that in mind, if the muzzle is is fit to ride 1/2 inch below the eyes and it's sized to be 1/2 inch longer than the snout - when the dog pushes into the muzzle it can not be pushed back over the eyes of the dog.
Test fit when on the dog:
- pull the muzzle out and down
- pull the muzzle out and up
If at some point the muzzle comes off, it’s either too loose or too big around. The muzzle should fit comfortably and allow the dog to pant and bark.
If you are still unsure of the size to choose, measure your dog then call our office at (715) 235-6502 and we will do our best to help you decide the best style and size of muzzle for your dog.
Sizing Tips
There are several things you need to know about sizing a muzzle for your dog:
- The muzzle should not touch the front of your dog's nose or snout the best option is to select a size 1/2 inches longer than the nose length. If the muzzle is too long, it will be pushed back on the dog's face and obstruct their line of vision.
- The muzzle's circumference must be larger than your dog's "nose or snout circumference." We recommend between one and three inches larger around than your dog's muzzle circumference measurement. If the muzzle is the exact same size as your dog's nose circumference, the dog won't be able to pant. It is very important that you give your dog enough room to pant while wearing the muzzle.
- In addition to length and circumference, owners of some breeds (i.e. the bully breeds or flat faced breeds) need to consider the width of their dog's jaw. It is easy to pick a muzzle size with the correct length but the muzzle may not be wide enough to fit the width of the jaw. Call or email our office if you have one of these breeds and need help.
There are several Facebook groups run by well-intentioned people who are telling dog owners to get these HUGE, HUGE muzzles. These folks claim these monster-sized muzzles allow a dog more room to pant, but fail to take several important factors into account. Poorly fitting, oversized muzzles come off far too easily--making this downright dangerous advice, especially if you have a reactive or aggressive dog.
The last thing someone in this position wants or needs is for a muzzle to come off their dog when it is needed the most. Our advice is to be very careful about listening to people who lack experience with aggressive dogs.
I have been involved in training police service dogs since 1985. I produced police K9 training videos on muzzle fighting. If you size a muzzle the way we explain your dog, it will have all the room it needs to pant when exercising.
When conditioning a dog to wear a muzzle we drop food rewards in the muzzle and encourage the dog to stick its nose in the muzzle and take the food out. We use marker training to teach a dog to be comfortable wearing the muzzle (see the video we have on the subject). One thing that helps in this process is to tape over the hole during this training so the food reward stays in the muzzle. Then when we reach the stage of training where we stop dropping food in we move on to passing food through the opening in the front of the muzzle, at that point the tape comes off. We have a detailed video on how to condition a dog to wearing a muzzle.
