I’m very disappointed today at the lack of remembrance nationally for those who were murdered on 9/11. I woke up today and it was like any other day… as if our nation forgot.
Where were you on 9/11?
On 9/11 I was sitting in Judge Cashman’s courtroom in Downtown Pittsburgh, waiting for a plea agreement to be reached in one of my cases. I remember it was hot in the hallway and I was wearing a double breasted suit…… so I decided to sit in the back of the courtroom in the air conditioning.
I remember getting a page from my wife saying that a plane just crashed into the World Trade Center. Like most of America, I assumed it was some small piper cub. I remember making some grunt noise that caused the woman sitting next to me to look over. I told her that a plane just hit the World Trade Center.
Once my plea agreement was made, I went back to the parking garage to go home…. It was my pass day so I was free all day. As I was leaving, I turned on the radio to catch the rest of Howard Stern…..that’s how I found out what happened….from listening to Howard Stern.
As I pulled into my driveway the first tower collapsed. I remember sitting in my car, unable to go inside. I didn’t want my wife to see me crying.

I was driving toward my office. the radio announcer came on with breaking news. The news was; it appeared an airplane had struck one of the towers. I remember thinking, how in the world could a pilot be stupid enough to not see that big building. As the events unfolded, like many other people, I was just numb.

I was at work (landscape nursery) and a co-worker radioed me to turn on my radio, that a plane had just hit the WTC.
I remember thinking that this could not have been an accident; then I remember that awful surreal feeling (the 'this can't be happening' feeling) when, as the morning progressed, it became clear that we were under seige...

I was at home watching the news (off work for surgery on my wrist), saw the replay of the first plane and watched the second one hit the towers behind bryant gumble's head.
I watched all day until the people started jumping from the windows.
Mom and I went outside the next day and it was quiet and the skies clear...no contrails you see...no planes flying.
Look! I DO fit in the bag. |

I was in bed when my wife came and woke me up to tell me was happening. I got out of bed and watched the coverage in disbelief, with tears in my eyes.
From my own experience with loss, moving forward and forgetting are different things.

I was at a doctor's appointment. I lived in a border city at the time (Windsor which is adjacent to Detroit) so we had all the American TV and radio stations. I remember as I was waiting my turn to see the doctor, the nurses/receptionists were talking about "can you believe it... my brother was going to fly out... etc" but I didn't know what they were talking about.
It wasn't until I went home for lunch around noon and tried to watch my usual Red/Green Show as I ate, that some movie was on about some airplane. Only the movie was on every channel. Then I realized it wasn't a movie, it was real!!

Laying in bed, having just fallen asleep after the night shift working on an ambulance in downtown Atlanta.
My co-worker, Sam, a pretty straight-laced guy, called me and told me "Turn your TV on, right the hell now." Somewhat shocked as his use of profanity, I asked "What channel?" and his reply "It won't matter" made my stomach drop.
We ate breakfast, drank several pots of coffee, and just watched the coverage. In the midst of it, he opined "This is going to change the world, result in war," to which I replied "We're in a war, we just didn't know it."

I was sat on the edge of my bed brushing my then 9 y.o. daughter's hair before dropping her at school.
With horror I watched as the first live shots came acroos the t.v.
This morning my now 6th grade daughter wore black to remember the lives lost and how it has changed us forever. How soon we(as a people) forget. Does anyone else recall in the weeks following, strangers, be it at the grocery or merely on the street, being kind to one another?

Right where Im sitting now.
At work listening on the radio, then in the conference room watching everything unfold on TV.
i remember my parents were away on a trip. And even though they were no where near what was going on, i was still concerned and worried.
I could only watch the tv for so long, until they started showing close up picture's of the people hanging out windows looking for help. I was horrified.
Don't complain....TRAIN!!! |

I was in my kitchen doing my usual morning stuff when my ex called. His band was actually supposed to play in NYC that week, so the first thing he said to me was "the gig was canceled"
I could tell by his voice that something was wrong, and I asked him about it. He told me to turn on my TV. When I asked him "what channel?" he said that any channel would do.
When I turned the TV on, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. After I watched for awhile, it felt like the ground that I was standing on had just fallen away. I just kept thinking "oh my God, all those people...." I can't remember ever being so profoundly effected by something. I could see it on everybody else's faces too. What a horrible tragedy.
