The Restructuring of American Street Ring:
We would like to announce effective April 1, 2004, that the ASR
organization will undergo drastic organizational changes and at that
time will become operated by a five member Board of Directors.
American Street Ring will no longer be operated solely by Ted Hoppe.
The newly organized ASR will be operated as a Florida Not-for-Profit
corporation and will not be connected in any way with the business
interests of any member of its Board.
The Board of Directors will be as follows:
Ken Hungerford
Jay Murphy
Scott Whigham
Craig Pender
Ted Hoppe
Each board member will have an equal voice, and majority vote will
rule. There will be no "veto power," nor is any board member under
the control, influence or employment of another.
With a unanimous vote of the board of directors, ASR's charter will be
written to state that ASR will always contain the elements of Civil
Aggression, Muzzle Attacks, Hidden Sleeve Bites, multiple decoy
scenarios, building searches and woods/area searches. No action by
any future board will be able to remove any of these elements.
Although no drastic rules changes will be implemented, there will be
many operational and procedural changes that will make ASR more clear,
open and understandable. We will make ASR more accessible to anyone
interested by posting current rules, decoy guidelines, and by
explaining infractions and penalties on the "soon- to-be-revamped"
website.
Over the past few years, as interest in the program began to increase,
Ted Hoppe came to realize that, due to business and family time
constraints, he could not dedicate enough time to ASR to keep the
program expanding and growing.
Each of the board members has at one time or another considered this
type change to ASR, and we found ourselves in complete agreement as
far as what would need to happen to help bring the program into the
mainstream. The decision to go ahead with this reorganization was
easily reached, and we all are excited about the future of ASR.
While some changes to the program are inevitable, the Board Members
are dedicated to the original principles under which ASR was founded:
1. To create a network of dog training enthusiasts whose goal is to
promote quality, practical, protection training in a realistic setting.
2. To provide a program that serves as a quality foundation for dogs
entering police or security work.
3. To provide a trial environment in which each dog is tested fairly
and consistently, and evaluated against a standard, without any bias
from the decoys or evaluators.
4. To do all of this in a fun and friendly yet competitive atmosphere.
The Board Members of the "new" American Street Ring are excited at the
opportunity to expand the program to which they have become so
dedicated. Input from interested parties will always be welcome and
well received.
