thanks for all the great replies!
I did not purchase the chow chow, my husband found it in the street around the area he works, all dirty and no leash.. just roaming.. that’s why we brought him home.. I do agree for those wanting a puppy to really do some research before hand… I had no idea how complex it could be…
Even though she always has a leash on in the home, I do not tie her to me. I let her roam free in the living room and kitchen area since she really is well behaved , stays calm, plays with a toy and doesn’t jump on furniture or eat anything.. I guess I will have to try the the other way and see if it helps with the jumping when she get exited!
I haven’t been chaining her up in the back yard.. I have been letting her roam free.. I put her outside when I can watch her ( for example when I take a shower) and she’s already had a nap and I don’t want to have to keep her in the cage. There is NO WAY any dog good get in, or her get out. We have a high, wooden fence all around, and after we got her my husband reinforced the fence my putting another plank of wood all across the bottom so she could not dig her way out. We have padlocked the door. I also live in a neighborhood full of dogs but the people here are great about them ALWAYS being on leash.
She gets lots of exercise all day, plenty of short walks and I take her to an area to go potty plenty of times a day. I pretty much know her schedule already but she does bark when she wakes up in the morning to get let out (shes in the crate, I’m still asleep) and if she is inside and wants to go she just walks to the door and looks at me…
When I say hasn’t had an accident in a month, I mean no accidents anywhere, in the crate or in the home..
I asked about the prong because she pulls a lot on our walks. So far, I don’t let her get in front of me, I either walk REALLY fast so I am walking next to her, or when she pulls TOOOO much, I stop and make her sit and stay and then we start walking all over again ( these walks tend to get pretty long from all the times we have to stop)
As for the girls being pack leaders, I agree that they need to have a higher RANK then Bella. My girls make Bella sit or stay and give her treats.. she loves the game and my girls have lots of fun with her. That has been going on for about a month ( since that’s when Bella started to respect the girls and not nip/jump on them.)
I NEVER leave them alone, EVER> I don’t think I could ever trust an animal 100 % with my girls.
I will look into the "Establishing Pack Structure for the Family Dog"
I am also VERY guilty of this:
“A lot of women tend to coo to dogs, like we do to babies.”
That’s all I did in the beginning until I got on this site.. I have now learned to change my mentality.. but… Bella is just soooooo adorable!
Thanks!
