In the first place the odds are against any 3yr Rottweiler starting in Schutzhund and doing anything regardless of his temperament.

This dog has zero chance. Zero with the best of the best trainers in the world.

Even in Protection work there is a requirement for control that this dog could never reach.

I hate hearing stuff like this. The owner is afraid of his own dog, so I doubt that OB training would even work, if the guy even tried it. The dog is dangerous and the owner seems to be proud of that. I think you're right the dog could very well have fear issues. I feel sorry for this poor dog, in the right hands he may have had a chance. Now he is a wreak waiting to happen. Please tell me this guy doesn't have children.

I know the dog would be terrible at obed. thats why Id tell him he must first get his dog to do obed. on and off leash. It will take him about 2 days to realize thats not gonna happen and he'll give up and stop thinking he can make a protection dog out of it.

I bet that there is a chance this dog could be trained in basic obedience and turned into a ONE PERSON companion. IF! he was turned over to a new owner that could put in the time and effort. (i.e. GET THE DOG AWAY FROM THAT CLOWN) Very few people could make the kind of commitment necessary to do that safely.

It is also possible that a very responsible 2ND owner (i.e. GET THE DOG AWAY FROM THAT CLOWN) could use him as a guard dog in the right situation. . .also very few of those opportunities out there as well.

I've seen people take on 98% wolf-hybrids that came from worse backrounds and turn them into one person companions. They had to be kept under lock and key, but it is possible.

That is the best situation this dog could hope for. . .that or the needle. I've done it with a really bad GSD that was imported as part of a group bid deal for K9 prospects.

Takes about three months to get things rolling doing it the way I did. Three months, a secure private kennel and training area, daily hand feeding and interaction, some stiff obedience work, and a careful honest hand can do it.

Protection training this dog is a total joke.

Or is this looked at as professional challenge.__ This is two fold, the first part is the professional challenge: Not ending up in hospital in my opinion would be the professional challenge, I think that’s where it stops, the second part, you can not teach common sense, by your own description you tried to appeal the the man senses, so you will have to work with what you have, So it stands to reason that this dog will be a time consuming frustrating hard cookie to Crack, I would charge, maybe even per hour and have conditions apply -get the dog away, Like Robbert suggested, kennel him and only you feed and clean, Then you will get to know him, and yes maybe even train him, weirder things have happened, where there is a will there is a way.

Lisa You are right anybody that gets in this dogs way is in for trouble. Fortunately kids don't approach this dog because of his demeanor no one wants to pet him.

Orv I agree the dog has no chance in SchH or Protection, but you can't convince this guy of this. He thinks its possible to find someone that can turn this into a positive???

Kim he has kids and a wife, the kids are 12 & 15 girl and boy, they don't want anything to do with the dog. Thats Dad's dog at feeding time if they with their dad and the dog walks or sometimes runs toward them they run back into the house. The dog in essence runs the entire back yard, the Mother has commented that if the dogs ever bites one fo her kids he is gone. But the Dad, feels the dog is just fine he a 1 man dog.

David & Vancamp there is no way that the two will separate, this fool thinks that somebody wants his dog, and may swicht him or try to keep the dog. Use him and bring him back. That the real hard part he thinks the dog has value. Its almost comical. They are connected at the testicle, I think.

Reiner & VanCamp are you suggesting kennel no food for a while, to break his spirit and then hand feed him to bring him back. Walk and treat and slide in OB? That may work if you are good.
How are you going to get the dog from the owner.
And wouldn't that make him only obey you?

Here is what has happen with the four trainers that have come by to evaluate the dog. Two have said that they can turn the dog around, but wanted to charge a $150 - $175 @ hr. They said they would need two to three weeks. They must be darn good or proud of themself. Or want to be in a win win situation.

One said that the dog needs to be destroyed, before he gets lose and bites somebody. He was escourted out of the house.

The last one made some comment that the dog was just misunderstood. I thought not one of these one with the universe type guys. In a demonstration he tried to show that the dog was not really mean. He went into the back yard (against the advice of the kids) and walked up to the dog in a cooing voice, trying to introduce himself talking to the dog with his hands out front for the dog to smell. What do you think happened??

The dog waited until he got within range and charged some kind of way the guy fell backwards (god help him if he slipped in range) and the dog bit his boot. This trainer still wanted to work with the dog off premises, the owner doesn't think this guy is strong enough to work the dog.
The trainer was dismissed.

He is now in search of a person with K9/police handling back ground. I informed him that the average Police K9 handlers is not trained to handle such a dogs. Now a retired K9 Trainers may have the time, but without OB I don't know if he would try or he is going to charge like the other two guys. This is just MO.

This is not a real close friend, he more of a old college buddy that I met recently at the grocery store he was buying dog food and I asked what type dog he had.

He told me beeming with pride and asked if I'd like to see him, we exchanged info. I told him my intrest and on the way to out to our car I introduced him to my dogs.

Right now Im more intrested in trying to save this community from a dog attack. I mean we are still cool, he is my school mate but thats as close I will admit, I don't want to be mentioned in the front page with him.

Not feeding him to break his will? Hell no, you feed and water the dog every day. . .hungry dogs are more pissed off. There is no battle of wills at this point. You just slowly create a positive association with YOU by feeding the dog and by not being a jerk.

In a lot of cases you would be suprised to know that just removing the dog from the sh!++y conditions will do wonders to his personality.

Being staked out and bugged daily by some jackass is a stressful situation.

A mean, angry dog on a chain.... ack!! He busts that chain, I feel sorry for ever that dog is targeted on. He has three years of bein PO'd on a chain, built up. And the owner havin to be cautious handling him? I wouldn't trust bein anywhere near the two of em. If, and when, the dog figures out its just the guy seperating him from taking a chunk out of you.... ack!!!(again)
IMO the dog has better chances of reforming, than the owner. As said before, with someone else, the dog may have that chance. Anyone who is proud that the dog is unapproachable, mean and nasty... and keeps it on a chain because of the same reason... is just plain ignorant and egotistical.
