CROSSPOST .........
------------------------
This information just came from Linda on the search for Steffie..
Hi All:
Just got home from spending two days in Hillsboro area with the search team.
Here is the status as of about noon on Sunday:
Fact: Steffi was in the car when it wrecked (7/31/05) and no where to be found
after the wreck
A witness to the wreck saw a dog heading south immediately after, the wreck.
Assumption and strong likelihood that it was Steffi.
That was the last time anyone can confirm the whereabouts of Steffi. Many
people have called in ‘leads’ on seeing dogs that ‘might be Steffi’. Most have
been confirmed NOT to be Steffi, others there just wasn’t anything to verify.
The e-mails stating ‘sighting’ are simply leads that have been researched or is
being researched. NO ONE has a confirmed sighting of Steffi since 7/31/05.
The entire area of Hillsboro and surrounding areas have been plastered with flyers and notification of this dog, they have posted $1,000.00 reward. The people who have worked all week have done a FABULOUS job of exposure of this
situation. The City of Hillsboro has donated use of a Billboard and the Malone’s have enough in donations to get the graphics and artwork done for it to be posted. A Dallas television station was there this morning filming and went
out with one of the search teams.
The entire area immediately surrounding the wreck site has been searched repeatedly and extensively with no evidence that Steffi is in the area. The area directly South and East are Texas countryside, plenty of stickers, beggars lice, brush, crops and who knows what else. Plenty of natural water in the area. Bowls of food have been left out in a couple of areas and have not been touched (this in the past 12-24 hours). The area directly North and West is heavy commercial (Super Wal-Mart within ¼ mile, McDonald’s about ½ mile) with lots of people.
When I left at around noon today there were upwards of 35 people out searching Hillsboro for any signs of Steffi. People were staked out at the local churches handing out flyers to any out-of-towners whom may not have already heard. Many people from all over Texas have come Saturday and Sunday to do what they can to help out.
It is MY PERSONAL OPINION, that Steffi is no longer in the immediate area of Hillsboro. I do not think she would follow the Interstate (too much traffic), nor do I think she could have headed North through Hillsboro without someone seeing her. I also do not believe after one full week that she is hiding out in the countryside, I think after her initial fear she would gravitate towards people, even if she did not allow herself close enough to be caught, someone should have been able to confirm her whereabouts since last Sunday. Although, from personal experience, if she spent anytime in the countryside she would be covered in stickers, mats and be absolutely filthy, so perhaps not recognizable from her picture posted on the flyers.
This is a heavily traveled interstate with truck stops near the wreck site. It is very possible that she was picked up by someone who hadn’t realized that she was a lost dog and is now out of the area. Here is a link to the flyers,

The Malone’s are absolutely devastated, between Steffi and Sasha’s death they have lost half their family. They greatly appreciate any and all help everyone has done including money, manpower and prayers. Both will have to return to work tomorrow and not be able to follow-up on leads as quickly. Please keep them and Steffi in your thoughts and prayers during this time.
