Willow would like you to know that "ha ha Ryuk and Gamble are stuck in their crates!"...actually she without hesitation tried to pull open Ryuk's crate to let him out with the towel there when he asked her....she's a VERY smart dog who's VERY good in the house except that she climbs on any and everything.....and I mean everything...for a dog with limited mobility she's an amazingly good climber and does it gently without any hesitation to investigate and she's methodical...it's like she's searching for something O_o whatever it is she hasn't found it...
She's also INSANELY high drive for a dog this sick and old....I don't know where she came from but I'd like too....level headed, high drive, social. I can't wait until she starts feeling better so her body can better keep up with her mind.

I caught on this as I was passing by...
Just on a whim, you might try hiding a favorite toy or treat and see how she reacts when she does find something. She may have done some training in scentwork or (maybe more likely), it's learned from scavenging on the streets. I'd be curious to know.
I see you found a rinse that helped the odor. In looking at the pix of your girl (sable, intact), I would suggest that furminating her undercoat off might further help with the odor. You will also need to be prepared for the possibility of a blown coat before her heat, which could occur before (if) she's rehomed.
Unfortuantly she need to get a healthier coat first, if I furminator now she'll be bald (the front half has a full coat but it's rather poor quality, the back has a flea scratched coat). She's been getting brushed with the "nubby brush" a few times a day (it's essentially a curry comb, but super soothing and gentle) to get the loose blown hair out.
Today we'll be back at the vet looking into pain management options as she's so lean that even with soft beds laying down is ouchy and the one position that would make it less ouchy is the one that makes her distended belly ouchy...standing and playing is clearly no issue though XD I took her out with my boys for training for the first time yesterday, she played "intercept Ryuk and steal his frisbee" and "synchronized trot" with Gamble and we worked on name game and recall.
Failed attempts at getting video of her rather surprisingly nice movement (considering how arthritic she's supposed to be and that she has no muscle at all) http://youtu.be/BAaxUeNIwM0
Great Vet appointment today She has full liver function and her liver is confirmed quite healthy...just big! However as far as pain management is going to go we just need to focus on super plush sleeping areas and muscle building, I bought her a new super fluffy long bed pad and it's made all the difference, she's most comfortable on her side but on anything less than 3 or 4 inches thick and it hurts her hip and shoulder I can see the difference with this new pad already, she's even willing to roll all the way over on it!
We're also about weaned off of the rice in her diet, all tasty weight gaining food!
I also got permission to start being mean XD because I've yet to figure out what training she has I've not corrected her for anything and have been using pure food motivated bribery to get her to do things or stop doing things. She's the type that if she doesn't like something you have about two times before she makes it muuuuch harder to do. I'll be picking up a padded chested harness for her tommorrow (I do not understand why none of the things I already HAVE don't fit/work for this dog lol), no more laying down when she doesn't want to go to her crate or get in the car. I'll be able to gently lift and march her if I need to. Today we had a lesson in getting into the right side crate in the car even if you don't want to because the other one has fun mats to play with, tommorrow I think I'm going to work on "we are going to walk past the long grassy patch beside the house and not stop for 5 minutes to do our best 'wolf stalking in the grass' impression" and "get in your crate does not me get ON your crate"
The biggest "positive thoughts" thing we need now is that her heat does NOT end this week...because it it does it means she was fertile LAST week while running loose...which may make things a bit complicated...
I think her love of that grass (Ryuk and Gamble love it too) has more to do with it being delicious and super cool and soft. She just wants to rub her face in it, and because she knows I'm being super friendly and letting her get away with murder that she can jump into it and I can do nothing but lure her with treats to get her out XD
