No Will...you misunderstood me, and rereading my post, I see why. I was talking about CANINE vaccines, and I meant other TYPES...not for other diseases. I should have been more specific b/c although this is a human thread, I was thinking lepto, lyme's, etc.
What I was trying to say is that while certain shots are no-brainers and absolutely do work (like Tetanus, Small Pox and Polio), some of the "newer" and "trendy" ones are not only unproven and not nearly as tested as more "core" vaccines, (both human and animal) but they have horrible side effects and reactions often times.
I will look for the article where I found a study comparing the efficacy of toxin vaccines versus virus and other "bugs".....

Ahhh, got it, Jenni!
I understand that, the Lyme's immunization comes to mind as one I would definately avoid for any canine.

Yeah, my post was pretty muddled. I knew what I was thinking, but forgot to type half of it, lol.
I think it's in Dr.Pitcairn's book, the study I'm thinking of. I believe he actually compared and contrasted Tetanus vs. Lyme's immunizations and their efficacy contrast. Lepto was another one-hundreds of strains, the shot works on about 3 of them (might be exaggerating here) and is one of the worst vaccinosis culprits.
Pitcairn is an immunologist, and he said something about the origin of the disease you're trying to fight being crucial to whether or not a vaccine will work...I can't find it online but I have the book at home. It did have a human study in it as well, so this isn't totally off-topic. I'll try to find it and post back tomorrow.

I 2nd this book. It is very good. Dr. Sears is obviously pro-vax, but gives a very unbiased look at each vaccine.
The only reason I keep bringing this up is because there is documentation throughout history of "pandemics" and it's very interesting to see how diseases appear in a population and how they recede... and the difference now is that pharmaceutical companies or individuals looking for grant money can skew the information to make it appear that more people are actually afflicted by a disease by simply broadening the symptoms that constitute that particular disease.
And you're saying that:
"Other types of vaccines (mostly to viruses) are NOT proven to work".
I'm sorry, I can look at the data and I have to disagree with you there.
Thats kinda what they were hinting at in the documentary that Cindy mentioned. There data showed diseases on the way out well before vaccines were introduced. I don't know. The only graphs and charts that I saw were in the documentary. I haven't seen them anywhere else.
I had also seen an interesting piece of info somewhere that showed some vaccine preventable disease following the same ebb and flow of diseases that there were no vaccines for. I will look for that now.
Unfortunately, mumps can also sterilize a male, about 10% of males having mumps had some reproductive side-effect.........pretty nasty.
Dear God. Please let me be in that 90%. If not, Ashley got some splainin' to do!
A lot of my problems and distrust come from pharma and doctors telling blatant lies about some drugs and vaccines.
There have been a lot of drugs and vaccines that were obviously creating problems. Some of these problems were denied for YEARS until they finally had to fess up and take them off the market.
Why deny things when everyone can see that there is a problem? If they would just admit the problems and get the crap off the market ASAP it would be easier to be more trusting.
They do it every year when they start shouting from the rooftops that 36,000 people are gonna' die this year from the flu.
I want to say again that I am very confused about vaccines. I read and read and read, and come away a little smarter, but still very confused.
When discussing vaccines I usually play devil's advocate to the popular view simply to keep the dialogue going. If you are for, I'm against, and vice versa. So noone take it personal. I'm honestly doing it to get the most info as possible.
If we all agree then the dialogue stops.
Its been said time and time again, but this forum is great. It is so nice to be able to participate in civil discussions about controversial topics.

Another aspect to be considered is all the immigrants we have in this country, especially the number of them in food prep positions. A lot of them come from countries where they aren't vaccinated like we are. So it's entirely possible to come in contact with stuff that's considered to be eradicated in the US. I was pretty sure that two of the guys at the Wendy's I worked at had something wrong with their respiratory system (TB) and one of the older women was terrible about not using gloves. My managers would always catch her and make her wear them but as soon as they were out of sight she would take them off again.
And yes it's very nice to be able to have a discussion without it spiraling out of control and getting locked.

John, just pointing out that this thread is almost 2.5 years old. The dates are in the upper right hand corner of the posting blocks. You might not get much feedback on that topic! (I've done the same thing myself....)
