Nothing so far, unfortunately.
It's been a horrible last couple of days. I put up flyers everywhere, with a colored photo of Ruy. I did a first flyer saying there was a "Generous Reward", and then did a second one offering $200.
I've talked to a lot of people on the streets and let them know my situation. While I was putting a flyer on a gas station, a whore came to me and looked at the picture. She said the dog was very pretty and asked if I had children. I said no, and then she said that she hoped one day... then she started to cry a little, waited about 20 seconds, composed herself and said she hoped one day her family would do with her what I was doing with my dog. Then she left crying hysterically. Pretty depressing.
Today I sent an email to all veterinary clinics in the island explaining the situation with a photo of the dog and a description of a trait he has. I also plan to call all of the vets and will fax them the flyer.
There is a weekly column in a local newspaper about lost dogs, but it's published on Friday's. I'm also trying to go on the air or have the DJ mention that a dog was lost, etc.
I've only got 2 phone calls so far, one from a person saying he works at a gas station and that he saw the flyer and wanted to know the reward amount. I told him $200. That phone call didn't sound fishy. The second one was in fact strange. This man called asking the dogs name so in case he saw him, he could call him. I told him that I had been advised not to say the dogs name and he told me it was my prerogative. He THEN said he was the man that worked at the parking lot in the park, and I told him the dogs name. I wrote down the phone number and will ask the man if he in fact called me.
Not sure I can do much more. At this point I'm pretty sure that someone grabbed the dog while he was running frantically and simply put him in his car. There is no way the dog could be on the loose or hiding, so the clothing article suggestion won't work in this case.
The getting the kids involved idea won't work either since the area only has one residential building, where I left flyers. So if he were to be in that building, someone would definitely call me and let me know (assuming the dog won't be kept inside 24/7). My cousin also lives in that building.
I guess my only hope is that someone sees the dog with his "new owner" and contact me after seeing the newspaper ad. Or that the vet informs me if/when the dog is taken to one, but since the dog looked so healthy I'm not sure how much time will go by until that happens.
I'm still very depressed, specially at nights and when I talk about it. Knowing how easily this could've been avoided makes it worse. I also feel contempt for most people on this island. This was a clear case of stealing a dog because I was screaming his name and he was just a puppy. The fireworks were still going off and you have to be a complete idiot (or very evil) not to put 2 & 2 together.
I still haven't told the breeder, who emails me about once a month to ask me how the dog is doing. I'm not sure what she'll think or how she'll feel. Do you think I should let her know?
I really appreciate your support, prayers and thoughts. I just hope I find him ASAP.
