My Czech boy is now 6 months of age. I got him at 8 weeks of age and socialized him very well, and he is very friendly with all people. Between the ages of 8-16 weeks of age we sat in front of Target, got him use to noises, took him everywere and anywere. He has no fear that I can see.
I am not a meet/greet type person on walks, only on the socialization that I did with him (mentioned above). I only will allow people to interact with him if I am not working him.
He was socialized properly with other dogs, however I didn't over socialize to the point that he had to meet ever dog he encountered, my main goal was for me to be his life.
We attend 4 parks daily, we do all sorts of differnt training, off leash, recall, building ball drive, swimming, hiking, etc.
On our one trip to a certain park, it's our controlled leash wallk, he is really great on leash, no pulling. I also carry a tennis ball, which he is totally focused on.
His focus is so good with humans and other distractions, he will not break it. If I am standing talking to someone, and they want to pet him, he won't take his eyes off me. However with other dogs, if he sees one, he has Leash frustration and will break his focus (if the distance is near enough (we have done the turn around, or further distance added, so his comfort level is more comfortable.
He is my second dog I have trained. My first dog, Jasper, a West Import show line GSD is a great dog. He is sensitive, loyal, lacks some focus (never worked it as pup, my mistake), not alot of ball drive, totally loves the bite sleeve, tug, abit edgy, nervy, overall a loving, loyal GSD. Jasper doesn't have the confidence that Loki does.
At this time, Jasper is the dominant dog over my 6 month old working line Czech Loki. However from what I see, there will be no question that Loki will rule over Jasper (of course I will always continue to be alpa
Okay, I got off track abit, but here are my concerns.
So Loki has leash frustration, on the times that he is allowed to meet or see another dog, he must be patient, be in a sit, be calm, otherwise no meeting occurs. I am very calm, I don't overeact,I don't give out any signals that would cause this issue (I give no leash or collar tension). I feel as if I made certain mistakes with Jasper, however I am 100 % confident in how I am training Loki, and feel great about everything.
So now knowing that is distance threshold is at least 20 feet, I am trying to go along those lines. I don't have to do this walk at all, however I just would like to attempt and have a civil dog, around other dogs.
Here is Loki's pedigree if it matters, I have heard with the Czech line, there can be some dog aggression.

I want to continue with focus, he is great with it (just this dog issue).
I have not ruled out a E collar (very last resort), however I would rather go with the prong first (I do use one with Jasper on areas with lots of other dogs).
Ok, any honest thoughts/recommendations/etc with my situation? Is there a good chance that he will be somewhat dog aggressive (I just don't see any at this point because once he meets, he is really good.
I also want to mention that upon meeting a dog, and if it is an appropriate area to play, he does take on a dominant role during the play (I don't let him try and do this on leash, only if its a play type session. Also, in all honesty, I don't want him as a dog to play with other dogs, just my pack, I am really just wanting some civilness and gauging my dog, and were he is at in regards to his age, and how he might turn out.
Also, last question. He has a great recall. In my breeders contract, I have to have him neutured (12-15 months)-I am shooting for 15 months, I want to see al develoment take place.
The question is this, great recall when I have him off lead (we go to a huge soccer field for throwing balls and such. If he would see another dog, chances are he will go for it (My guess at this point, and plus with him starting to go through maturity.
Would it be wise to go with a ecollar to be on the safe side? In all honesty, because I haven't read much into them, I don't like the way they sound. However if I read into it, I may feel different, because I care about safety for all dogs involved.
If you do suggest it, is there a certain brand, strength, ect I should be looking for?
I also heard there were vibration collars out there? if so, is that another option?
I appreciate your thoughts, suggestions, opinions. If I am way off base in anything, be honest, I can take constructive critisism.
To be honest, If Loki was to not meet another dog in the world, I wouldn't loose sleep over it, because again, I want to be the main focus, and at this point, I am about 75% there. I believe alot in what Ed says about training a dog. I guess you can say that I am never 100% on board with just any one trainer.
I also want the ecollar,if I need to get it for the recall situuation (breaking it), however I am open minded to suggestions.
Thank you
