Persistent and chronic disease is one of the greatest frustrations for those who love animals. It is equally so for the doctors that care for them. It is a tribute to the growing and dedicated group of veterinarians that are willing to look at new ways to heal disease, that they are aware of the limitations of conventional medicine and are unwilling to accept them . Don Hamilton is one of these pioneers, a brave and dedicated healer who has made the study of homeopathy his life's passion.
In this book, he carefully and clearly lays down the essential knowledge needed to use homeopathy successfully. To read this book is to prepare you to help your animal with the many day-to-day vicissitudes of life. But more than this, it will make you a knowledgeable and cooperative client.
The greatest challenge to the homeopathic practitioner is to communicate the more accurate deeper perspective of health and disease necessary for them to do their good work. So many people in our busy modern times want the problem solved quickly and easily. Yet, the sad reality is that they would not be at the doorstep of a different kind of vet if they had not already tried everything that conventional medicine could offer. For many clients this is their "last hope." Yet it is extraordinarily sad to see the animal that could be cured with patience and persistence, only to have that not happen because of the wrong expectations.
Perhaps the greatest lesson for all of us is seeing the differences between the familiar effects of conventional allopathic medicine with its rapid drug effects and that of the true healing of homeopathy. The latter works with the natural healing abilities of the body and allows the time needed for the body to repair itself. A good comparison is the healing of an injury. We know it takes time for the wound to shrink, fill in and scab over. We would be astonished if all this happened in a couple of hours. Yet, strangely, we have become accustomed and even expectant of this kind of rapid change in the treatment of chronic diseases. All would be fine if this resulted in healing, but it does not. More and more drugs are needed as the poor animal languishes and waits for his life to be restored.
Dr. Hamilton carefully makes it clear that this satisfaction with drug effects is based on an unrealistic picture of health and disease. He takes you step by step into a clarity that will serve you well, a perspective that will enable you to be a real partner in helping your animal recover his health.
This understanding is not something peculiar to homeopathy. It applies to all true methods of healing, and it happens that homeopathy is one of these. So, take some time, read this book carefully, and learn of one of the greatest discoveries in the history of medicine. We are fortunate to have a healer of Dr. Hamilton's stature take us on this journey.
