Product Description
The majority of dog owners only use their leash when taking their dog for a walk. A large number of those people are being pulled down the street each and every time they attempt to walk their dog. No one enjoys this experience, which is why we have produced this DVD on how to use your leash as a tool to communicate with your dog. Through a process called "leash pressure," we can teach the dog how to politely walk on the leash by implementing the skill we call "Loose Leash Walking."
Three of the most common questions we receive about Michael Ellis' training system are:
- What is Leash Pressure?
- How do you teach Leash Pressure?
- When is it appropriate to incorporate Leash Pressure into your training program?
This training will allow you to use the leash as a communication tool, which means giving your dog directional cues using pressure or slight pulls on the lead.
The DVD will break down how to establish leash pressure in a detailed, step-by-step process. We will also cover practical applications of this new skill. Everyday uses for leash pressure include loose leash walking, finishes, heeling, recalls and play.

Outline
- Introduction: What is leash pressure? Why do we use it? Where does it fit into our overall system?
- Prerequisites: What do you need to have in place before you start, and when should you start?
- Managing your dog pre-leash pressure. Use of harness, flexi, Halti/Gentle Leader, food, long lines, etc.
- Choosing your equipment: Which choices we have, and factors that affect the tools we choose.
- The process: Introducing "leash pressure" to your dog.
- Uses for "leash pressure" after the process is complete:
- Learning to cope with mild stress.
- Position in heeling (focused and otherwise).
- Finishes.
- Loose leash walking.
- “Contact” heeling.
- Working through possessiveness in play.
- Finishing recall work.
- Blocking errors in training (i.e. going through doors, target work/place work, preventing a dog from engaging in self-reinforcing behaviors, limiting options, etc.).
- Preparation for, and the eventual use of, correction in our training (positive punishment).
- Pros and cons of shaping of leash pressure with rewards when used as an alternative to real negative reinforcement.

Write a ReviewLike many reviewers stated - the course is pretty expensive, because its focus is limited. Ellis does provide an overview on the different types of dominate collars and he explains and demonstrates how to correctly put one on. He also demonstrates leash pressure- how to do it, and various dogs are demoed having leash pressure, but the class does not really help one take the results of leash pressure out into the real world. My question was -- okay, I am getting success with leash pressure, but how do I walk quietly down my neighborhood street with my dog. Ellis demos his walk outside with his highly trained maliawois , but the average person buying this course, does not have such a highly trained animal. So, really we need to see beginner dogs getting trained, and also we need to see dogs being walked outside in normal - everyday environments. Ellis is a phenomenal trainer, and his ability to clearly explain principles -- just about has no rival, but this course was not enough for me to actually get out onto the streets with my dog, Hence I had to buy another course to augment this one, and so with that in mind, the course is over priced.
It is overpriced for the amount of content in the DVD, but definitely a useful addition to your training video library!
This was a really informative DVD about an issue that most of us take for granted (at least I did). I learned what leash pressure is, how to teach it, when to teach it and, once taught, what kind of situations to use it in. Well explained and put together!
Now I'll have fun retraining my seven year old rescue what a leash is and what it means when pressure is applied. I can feel less stressful walks just ahead in our future! Thanks to Michael and Ed for making such great DVDs. I have learned so much!
