Product Description
Leerburg's 15" Nylon Tubular Tug is a smooth, flexible, and lightweight toy locally handmade by the Amish. The nylon for this tug is of softer material than Kevlar or firehose tugs so you can be assured that this tug will be gentle on your companion's gums and teeth. It's also flexible enough to easily slip into your training vest or back pocket whether you're going on a walk or training in your backyard.
The Nylon Tubular Tug is also the perfect training tool for the OUT command.
Dogs derive pleasure from being able to jerk a toy around. When training the OUT command, it is crucial to minimize the dog's ability to engage with the toy until they have successfully released it. Tugs with handles can offer too much leeway. A dog can easily 'self-reward' when the tug is held by the handles. This results in a dog who starts thinking it's a good idea to ignore the OUT command.
With the Nylon Tubular Tug, it's easy to "lock" the toy in place when giving the OUT command. Your dog will quickly learn it's no fun to pull at the tug when it's locked in place and will release the tug. This takes some practice but combined with marker training, the Nylon Tubular Tug can be a helpful training tool! To use this tug at its full potential, we recommend enrolling in our self-study online course on The Power of Playing Tug with Your Dog.
The Nylon Tubular Tug should be used for dogs that have already started tug training. Beginner puppies will work best with a jute or linen tug.
Tugs Are Not Chew Toys
Tugs are not chew toys and should never be left with dogs alone. When tugs are used correctly, they last for a very long time. When they are left unattended with a dog, they may only last minutes. User discretion is advised.
Note
Our Leerburg tugs are handmade. We try to be as exact as possible with size and color but variations may occur.

Write a ReviewI am a former Police Officer K9 Trainer and handler that rotates "in & out" to Afganistan and Iraq. Just started to utilize the red nylon tubular tug. Dogs are loving it as the "best" reward for explosive and narcotic detection. Many Thanks! Switching from Ray Allen to Leerburg for training supply needs. Recommending same to others!!

I have only had this tug for a few days but already it is turing into our favourite. It's really hard to find tough tugs which are small enough for my Border Terrier to grip comfortably. Despite his small size, he is really hard on his tug toys (French linen -hah!) and I like that this is tough but also soft and not as abrasive to his teeth as kevlar (plus, I haven't found a kevlar tug with a small enough diameter for him).
The previous reviewer is right about this wearing in - the stuffing is packed really tight but already it is softening up and I can tell it will get more flexible with time. My dog's teeth are puncturing the material but it looks like any tears are unlikely to fray or run.
The manufacturing quality is great and the tug is easy to tuck away and quickly produce. It even throws well!
It does get slippery when slobbered on, but if you practice targeting so your dog grabs it in the middle, this is not a problem as there is plenty of room for your hands to hold the ends.
I would really recommend this for dogs that are already keen tuggers and happy to play with the tougher materials. Five Stars!
