Product Description
This muzzle and our Polymer coated muzzles are our two most popular styles of muzzle. This Jafco muzzle is lightweight and obviously waterproof. In our opinion, it is too light of a muzzle to do serious police muzzle fight. But it will work well for reactive or aggressive dogs. With those dogs, you will absolutely need the third strap. That third strap offers a much higher level of security with dogs that should have a muzzle on.
If you're brand new to fitting a dog with a muzzle, read this entire description. If you get conflicting information from other websites or people, I strongly suggest you read the warning at the bottom of this webpage. There are a lot of nice people who have an opinion on how to size, fit, and condition a dog to a muzzle. The problem is most people lack the experience to offer accurate advice. We have 40 years of experience with police service dog, protection dogs, and dogs in the various biting dog sport.
40% of the muzzles we sell are returned because customers make mistakes in measuring their dogs for a muzzle. We stock 60 different styles and sizes of muzzles, selecting the right one for your dog is on of the hardest thing you may have to do for your dog.
We will gladly exchange a muzzle for a different size but we cannot pay shipping on muzzle returns and exchanges. We hate to have to take this position but the number of returns has forced this policy.

Even with all of this help, it can still be difficult to pick the correct size. The only fool-proof way of not making a mistake is to either bring the dog to our office or do the best you can with measurements and order several different sizes, then return the muzzles that don't fit. With luck, you should end up with the correct size muzzle. The only downside to this approach is you will have to pay shipping charges to return the muzzles that didn't fit your dog.

How to Measure Your Dog for a Muzzle
About this muzzle
JAFCO 3-Strap Muzzles are a tried and true plastic basket muzzle that offers good security. It's great to wear for extended periods of time without inhibiting your dog's breathing, barking, or panting. Your dog can also drink water with the muzzle on (you'll need to teach your dog that it's okay to put the muzzle into the water before leaving them unattended for any period of time). These are easy to put on and off and will last for many years.
JAFCO Muzzles are made with polyethylene plastic. These JAFCO muzzles are made with 3 reinforced rubber straps for extra security. Regular JAFCO Muzzles are normally made with two straps. Please note that the clear JAFCO muzzle is much more pliable and flexible than the white or black color.
The JAFCO Conditioning Muzzle is designed with a hole in the front nose that allow food rewards to be passed through during training. We recommend ordering this muzzle instead if your dog isn't used to wearing a muzzle.

Fitting a Muzzle for Your Dog
Figuring out the proper size muzzle can be a complicated process. We've created several mediums on assisting you with properly fitting your dog's muzzle. If you are still unsure of which size to choose, measure the circumference of your dog's snout as well as the length. You can call our office at (715) 235-6502 and we will do our best to help you decide the best style and size of muzzle for your dog.
Sizing
There are several things you need to know about sizing a muzzle for your dog:
- The muzzle should not touch the front of your dog's nose or snout the best option is to select a size 1/2 inches longer than the nose length. If the muzzle is too long, it will be pushed back on the dog's face and obstruct their line of vision.
- The muzzle's circumference must be larger than your dog's "nose or snout circumference." We recommend between one and three inches larger around than your dog's muzzle circumference measurement. If the muzzle is the exact same size as your dog's nose circumference, the dog won't be able to pant. It is very important that you give your dog enough room to pant while wearing the muzzle.
- In addition to length and circumference, owners of some breeds (i.e. the bully breeds or flat faced breeds) need to consider the width of their dog's jaw. It is easy to pick a muzzle size with the correct length but the muzzle may not be wide enough to fit the width of the jaw. Call or email our office if you have one of these breeds and need help.

How to Clean
Scrub gently with soap and water. Pat dry with a towel and allow to air dry completely.
WARNING
There are several Facebook groups run by well-intentioned people who are telling dog owners to get these HUGE, HUGE muzzles. These folks claim these monster-sized muzzles allow a dog more room to pant, but fail to take several important factors into account. Poorly fitting, oversized muzzles come off far too easily--making this downright dangerous advice, especially if you have a reactive or aggressive dog.
The last thing someone in this position wants or needs is for a muzzle to come off their dog when it is needed the most. Our advice is to be very careful about listening to people who lack experience with aggressive dogs.

I initially bought another popular brand and after not having enough pant room in it I purchased this jafco.
This muzzle allows for as much panting room as my girl needs during our vet visits. The straps and muzzle are both very good quality and there's no way my dog could bite through it.
Highly recommend this muzzle for anyone in the market.
