Product Description

If you are unsure whether the micro prong is right for your particular dog please ask Cindy.

Micro Prong collars were designed originally to fit small dogs, because the larger prongs on standard size collars were too far apart, causing both fit and effectiveness issues. A Micro collar is made up of miniature prongs with a much shorter distance between them than typical prong collars. The end result is a collar that is proportionally correct on a diminutive dog. A Micro stays up under the jaw and on the safe part of the neck where it should be, without slipping down. And it provides gentle, steady pressure when pulled against, eliminating the uneven, pointy feel of too few prongs on a small neck.

The Duro

For small dogs 7 lbs to 20 lbs

This collar is the sturdiest Micro, and features our most durable components. Designed for small dogs, it can withstand heavier pulling than the ultra style. This collar also features a strong split ring leash attachment. Add-on links may be purchased for dogs whose neck size exceeds 9".

Leerburg recommends using a backup collar any time you are using a prong collar on your dog. For more information on back up collars and why we recommend them check out some of our free streaming videos on the proper use of a prong collar as well as the prong collar leash. We recommend Leerburg’s Dominant Dog Collar.

It is recommended to NOT use these collars with a retractable (flexi) lead.

Advantages

  • Proportionally correct on a diminutive dog or large breed puppy. (Larger prongs on standard size collars are too far apart, causing both fit and effectiveness issues.)
  • Lightweight design means less bulk on the dog. (Micro prongs are just 1.75mm, compared to the standard 2.25mm of 'small' prong collars.)
  • Stays up under the jaw and on the safe part of the neck where it should be, without slipping down.
  • Provides gentle, steady pressure when pulled against, eliminating the uneven, pointy feel of too few prongs on a small neck.
  • Double O rings are sturdy, and allow handler to use one or both rings clipped together to the leash.
  • Made in the U.S.A. with genuine Herm Sprenger chain and American stainless steel.
  • Now in Quick Release model!

Components

  • Micros are made of Type 304 Quarter Hard 100% American stainless steel. This is very strong steel alloy with a very high tensile strength and resistance to corrosion from climate, chemicals, and organic compounds.
  • The brushed metal, sporty look of our collars is the direct result of the artisan-style manufacturing with hand tools. (Bulk-made overseas prong collars are heated and undergo a drying process in large machines that results in high shine.)
  • Made in the USA with genuine Herm Sprenger chain and American stainless steel.
  • Portion of sale proceeds benefits the Washington Dept of Fish and Wildlife Karelian Bear Dog Team. These working dogs provide the only established program in the U.S. to resolve conflicts between humans and bears in a non-lethal manner. With the help of these dogs, problem bears are humanely captured and released back into the wilderness, instead of routinely euthanized.
  • Ours are the only Micro Prongs made by hand in the USA Kimberland Collars handcrafts each one in a small town in rural Washington State. The Kimberlands operation provides meaningful work for disabled veterans along with students.

Additional Considerations

Prong collars do not apply pressure to the dogs trachea, making them a safe alternative to a slip collar, and much safer than allowing your dog to pull into a flat collar which can cause permanent damage to the dogs wind pipe. Instead a prong collar tightens, creating a pinching sensation that is instantly released once the dog “yields to the leash” or stops pulling.

Dog training is never without risk of injury. Do not attempt these techniques yourself without consulting a professional. Leerburg Enterprises, Inc. cannot be responsible for accidents or injuries to humans and/or animals.
