Product Description
Why use a Polymer Muzzle?
Unlike chrome muzzles, our polymer-coated muzzles do not rust and your dog's tongue will not stick to the muzzle in freezing temperatures. The polymer-coated metal allows the dog to pant, drink, or easily take food treats through the front or sides.
We obviously recommend muzzles for aggressive dogs, but there are many other good reasons to use a muzzle. They are an excellent choice to wear for vet visits, and can be used to condition a reactive dog to safely go on walks. They can also be used as part of a solution to safely groom and/or cut nails, and can be an effective tool to stop your dog from licking wounds or eating rocks or garbage.
Sizing
There are several things you need to know about sizing a muzzle for your dog:
- Measure your dog's snout, starting 1/2" below the eyes, to the tip of your dog's nose. If the muzzle is too long, it will be pushed back on the dog's face and obstruct their line of vision.
- Measure the circumference of the widest part of your dog's closed mouth. We recommend you add between one and four inches to that measurement to get your dog's muzzle circumference measurement. The muzzle's circumference must be larger than your dog's "nose or snout circumference." Refer to SIZING NOTICE for circumference recommendations.
- In addition to length and circumference, owners of some breeds (i.e. the bully breeds or flat faced breeds) need to consider the cheek width of their dog's head. Measure the widest part of your dog's head in a straight line to get your dog's cheek width measurement. Select a muzzle that is 1/4" wider than your dog's measured cheek width. Call or email our office if you have one of these breeds and need help.
SIZING NOTICE
How you plan to use the muzzle affects which size you need.
For active use (walks, exercise, play): Choose a size with enough circumference for your dog to fully open its mouth and pant freely. A dog that cannot pant while active risks overheating. Ideally, you should add 3 - 4 inches to the circumference for this fit.
For reactive or aggressive dogs (safety/management use): Choose a snugger fit — just comfortable enough to wear, but without extra room. A muzzle that is too large or too loose can be pawed off easily, which defeats its entire purpose and can create a dangerous situation. Ideally, you should add 1 - 2 inches to the circumference for this fit.
If you are still unsure of the size to choose, measure your dog and call our office at (715) 235-6502 and we will do our best to help you decide the best style and size of muzzle for your dog.
Sizing Chart (inches)
- Muzzle Length: Measured from end of felt on noseband to inside metal.
- Muzzle Circumference: Completely around the inside of the muzzle, starting at the noseband.
- Muzzle Cheek Width: Measured from inside metal to inside metal, at the cheek bars.
- If needed:
- Muzzle Nose Width: Measured from inside metal to inside metal, just past the noseband.
- Muzzle Height: Measured from end of felt noseband to inside metal at bottom.
- Common Breeds: Breeds commonly seen in this size — but fit varies. Head shape, snout length, and build differ even within the same breed. Always measure your dog before ordering.

Confirming the fit on your dog:
With the muzzle on the dog:
- Pull the muzzle out and down
- Pull the muzzle out and up
If at some point the muzzle comes off, it’s either too loose or too big. The muzzle should fit comfortably and allow the dog to pant and bark. We also like to be able to pass food rewards to a dog in a muzzle.
How to Measure Your Dog for a Muzzle
40% of the muzzles we sell are returned because customers make mistakes in measuring their dogs for a muzzle. We stock a lot of different styles and sizes of muzzles, and selecting the right one for your dog is one of the hardest things you may have to do as a dog owner.
We do everything we can to help customers determine what size muzzle to order. We have produced a streaming video on HOW TO MEASURE YOUR DOG FOR A MUZZLE, and we are happy to offer phone consultation.
Even with all of this help, it can still be difficult to pick the correct size. The only fool-proof way of not making a mistake is to either bring the dog to our office or do the best you can with measurements and order several different sizes, then return the muzzles that don't fit. With luck, you should end up with the correct size muzzle. The only downside to this approach is you will have to pay shipping charges to return the muzzles that didn't fit your dog.
We will gladly exchange a muzzle for a different size but we cannot pay shipping on muzzle returns and exchanges. We hate to have to take this position, but the number of returns has forced this policy.
Before purchasing, please review our return policy. Returns are subject to conditions.
If you still need help after reviewing our sizing video and charts, call our office at (715) 235-6502. We are open Monday through Friday from 8AM to 4PM Central Time.
How to clean the muzzle nose pad:
Scrub gently with soap and water. Pat dry with a towel and allow to air dry completely.

Super fast shipping and fits my Irish Wolfhound perfectly!
We've struggled to find a muzzle that fits my dobie and his long but slender face. This one is perfect. Thanks for the quality product and thorough instructions on how to measure for the proper fit.
Customer service was absolutely fantastic!! I ended up getting a too small sized muzzle which was totally my fault and they gladly helped me out with sizing and switching out the small one for the proper size. Couldn’t be happier with the proper fit one and such good quality!!
Love it! Shipped fast and fits wonderfully :D (11 yr old chi mix pictured @princess_the_mutt on instagram)
We love our muzzle!! It was sent out after a day and shipping only took one day so it got here super quick!! It looks great on my girl and she didn’t mind it too much! The only thing is I had to stretch the cheek wires a little just because they squished her face a bit but they’re perfect now! Thanks Leerburg!!
Love it! Just need one for the other dog.
I have an American bulldog with unusual face dimensions and I've had a hard time finding a muzzle that fits him. I messaged Leerburg with his sizes and they helped me find one that would work. A+ on service, product, and shipping!
