My dog is a therapy dog and makes this gurgley, growling sound when she visits with another dog. What am I doing wrong and how can I correct it?

Full Question:
Hi,

I have 3 GSDs and my one is a certified therapy dog now. She is very sweet to people and dogs. When she visits with another dog she makes this loud gurgley, growling sound but doesn't lunge, snap, or bite. Its almost like she's trying to talk to them but it startles people. I give her a loud verbal correction as well as with the correction (choke chain) collar. She stops at that point but does it again with the next dog. What am I doing wrong and how can I correct it?

Thank You
Ed
Ed Ed's Answer:
We don’t allow our dogs to come in contact with strange dogs, not ever. We train our dogs to ignore other dogs on walks and then during our training at the dog clubs we train at.

A service dog should be no different. Anyone who tries to tell you that a service dog should get along with strange dogs lacks experience and needs more training themselves.

Bottom line is as a pack leader it is your job to step in between your dog and any strange dog and make sure there is not contact. Once your dog knows your going to do this every time you will see your dog relax. More than likely she will stop doing this.
