One of my dogs recently killed the other while I was out running an errand. What caused the one dog to attack?

Full Question:
Hi,

I have had both my females, a french bulldog and an Amstaff living together since they were pups for the last year. Neither have been spayed. Recently my FB had a litter and I had seperated her down the side. The Amstaff had been barking and jumping at the gate for days. I kept the FB seperate until she gave me signs she was ready to leave, which was today, so I let her out. The Amstaff kept sniffing her, and standing rigid to her with her tail erect. After running out for an errand, I came home to my FB dead in the back with bite marks all over her, but no major puncture wound that I could see, or a puddle of blood. What caused the Amstaff to attack? Considering they shared a kennel previous to all this, and how did my beloved FB die? I'm devestasted to the point I will be giving away my Amstaff!

Cindy Cindy's Answer:
Having a litter and having the dogs separated for a period of time changed the dynamics between the two dogs and then by just putting them together and not recognizing the signs of aggression, this was actually a management problem from your end. The dogs should have NEVER been left together unattended.

It’s very unfortunate, but I get emails like this almost every day from people who don’t understand dog body language and behavior.
