Reminds me of the Governor in a northern state a while back that made a statement that one of their police dogs was racist because it bit a black person. Her recomendation was to have it put down.
In the US, anyone can sue for just about anything. Hungry lawyers, working on commission, encourage many of these suits looking for a quick settlement and their 50% cut. Often, many of those cases get thrown out of court. Unfortunately, the one getting sued usually has to pay his own legal costs. Even if you are dismissed from the case, those costs can be crushing. The British system of loser-pays would cut down on much of this foolishness.
Ohio has never had a black female governor. I recall the story somewhat, but I don't believe it was a Governor. I believe it was a local counsel (sp?) person in the jurisdiction where the bite occured. If I recall the story, correctly, the dog was deployed from a vehicle via remote door-popper when the handler came under assault. The dog came out of the car and targeted the wrong person (a juvenile, in this case, if I recall correctly.)
Scott is correct…. The incident(s) happened here in the Pittsburgh area in McKees Rocks to be specific. There were two incidents, first the accidental release of the dog while the handler was wrestling with a suspect down the street…. The door popper accidentally was hit and the dog bit a kid that was standing near the car.
The second incident involved a demonstration in a school where the dog bit a girl who was petting it. McKees Rocks Councilwoman Wanda Jones Dixon wanted the dog (Dolph) euthanized because he could “Tell the difference between blacks and whites.”
