Just to let you know who we are convicting here, Ms. Large was priviously convicted of "Hit and Run" and sexual battery on a thirteen year old. but the message is clear, we are not going to waste time with BSL but hold owners accountable
Well, I would have preferred a longer sentence for the owner of the dogs, but at least it's a start.
It's funny, someone had mentioned in a thread many months ago about forbidding felons from owning pitbulls as a partial solution to the problem. This is a case in which an innocent victim would still be alive if a law like that would be put into practice.

Why was this woman even out of jail???? Sexual battery and hit and run!!!!!!! Crimes against children should be life sentences. They certainly are for the victims. I am glad she got convicted I hope the judge adds on more time to her sentence. Maybe should she could be a decoy for Fetz!!!!!!
"During the trial, numerous witnesses testified that Large's pit bulls had menaced the rural neighborhood where she lived. Animal control officers had taken two of her pit bulls away in August 2004 after they allegedly killed a kitten. At one point, Large had 13 pit bulls living in her doublewide trailer, a detective testified."
Let me get this straight...she's "unemployed" but had 13 pitbulls?
My tax dollars at work.
Love your thought Will, 13 Pits, no job????????? Her sentence is to light, Terry's idea regarding decoy work appeals to me as well
The only positive part of this tragedy ( let's not forget that a woman lost her life here ) is that they are punishing the guilty party - the idiot owner of the dogs.
This is the answer to all the BSL hype, there are laws already on the books which can be used to punish ( and correctly used, to prevent these bad events ) the guilty, not just throw a blanket over every dog in the breed and blame them for a stupid human's lack of responsibility.
Let's hope that the legal system starts to use this approach more often!

I suggested the same thing a few years ago on another board and it wasn't a popular idea I would even take it a few steps further and require some type of psychological evaluation along with a written test to prove the competancy of the prospective owner... and for all large dominant type breeds.
I think jail sentences are going to be the new trend and hopefully BSL will be eliminated. I like the direction it's going in
Personally, I think the woman should have been executed for molesting the 13 year old boy. That's a real sicko!
