Good day all. I apologize if this topic has been discussed to death, but my searching didn't quite yield the answers I was looking for.
This is for all the BARFers out there. Those of you that feed the canned Jack Makeral and/or Sardines, have you noticed that your dog (or cat) had loose stool for a few days after? My Cane Corso LOVES sardines and makeral and I enjoy feeding it to him b/c its a natural way for him to get his Omega's. But it really bothers me when he has those loose smelly stools. I try to give him fresh Tilapia, but he won't touch it. Any other ideas? If you've experienced the loose stools, did you find a fix and still be able to feed the canned stuff?
Any inside info would be great. Take care and have a safe and happy New Year.
Loose stool never really bothers me unless it persists beyond 'what the dog ate', if you know what I mean. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> You should see their poop during liver day...
You can add canned pumpkin to it, usual suggestion. Or even just a bit of good natural kibble to firm it up.
If you wanna get him started on fresh tilapia you can start by cooking/flavouring it (not enough to reach the bone just the outside), and then decreasing that, etc. Mmmm. Nothing like freshly steamed tilapia.
Thanks for the replies. The pumpkin trick I know about but the below ground veggie increasing I didn't. I don't feed veggies to my dog, but I might start doing it once in a while.
I guess its okay then if I know that the Sardines/Makeral are causing a bit of loose stool as long as it goes back to normal when I don't feed it. Thanks again.
